Arsenal Set To Hijack Tottenham's Target

Before the transfer window closes, Arsenal wants a new striker; eyes Dominic Solanke, a target for Tottenham. Arsenal’s initial option was Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, but his heavy price tag makes a deal difficult. Although Marseille dropped out of the contest to concentrate on Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko, Eddie Nketiah is scheduled to depart Arsenal. Mikel Arteta wants greater competition for Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus to assemble a team capable of winning titles.

Arsenal Set To Hiack Tottenham’s Target

Having 43 goals last season, Gyokeres has an £86 million release clause that Sporting demands on. Arsenal changed its emphasis to other striker targets as they are not ready to spend that much. According to reports, they entered the hunt for Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth. Crucially important to the Cherries’ team, Solanke, 26, scored 19 Premier League goals last season. Should he be able to match such figures at Arsenal, he may be a game-changer; nevertheless, Arsenal suffers rivalry from Tottenham.

Signing a new center-forward during this transfer window is another top priority for Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou. Arsenal’s approach for Gyokeres is not totally wrong, but it is somewhat improbable. Arsenal has focused on Solanke, who is open to leaving Bournemouth. Solanke’s Bournemouth deal goes until 2027, providing Cherries negotiating strength. They would only think about selling should they get a £65 million deal, although it’s unknown Arsenal’s expenditure level.

Tottenham, also keen on Solanke, has started negotiations with his agency. Richarlison may leave Spurs, and Postecoglou wants a new striker nonetheless. Tottenham is still the first choice for Solanke, but should Arsenal demonstrate a readiness to commit significant forward expenditure, that may change.

Arsenal’s strategy change is shown in its attention on Solanke. Although Gyokeres has attractive aims, his price is a barrier. Solanke could be a better option given Premier League experience and a lesser price. Competing with Tottenham for his signing, however, puts strain. Arsenal’s offensive will be shaped by Arteta’s choice; should Solanke produce, it may be a turning point for the Gunners.

More news:

Barcelona had first chance to sign Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino. Initially presented to the Blaugrana, the 28-year-old midfielder’s representation turned Barcelona off the prospect. Merino apparently will be joining Arsenal this summer now. Since his July 2018 transfer to Real Sociedad from Newcastle United, Merino has evolved dramatically. Originally battling for consistency, he has grown to be a major player for his nation and club. For Real Sociedad, he has made over 250 appearances, scoring 27 goals and dishing up 30 helpers. His future at the Reale Arena seems doubtful with just one year remaining on his contract. Several well-known European teams have taken note of these circumstances.

Barcelona might have signed Merino, but they gave other targets—especially Dani Olmo first priority. This choice let Arsenal intervene and forward negotiations with the Spanish midfielder. There is no personal term between Merino and Arsenal, hence a transfer agreement is the last obstacle. Arsenal’s desire in Merino suggests their intention to improve their midfield. His adaptability and expertise help him to be a useful member of the team. The Gunners have been active in the transfer market, therefore adding Merino would help them to fulfill their goals for the next season even more.
