The chase of Eddie Nketiah by Marseille looks to be in flux. Though interested, they have not made an offer that would satisfy Arsenal. Three bids have been turned down; the most recent one, £23 million, falls short of the £30 million Arsenal is seeking for the Hale End graduate. Marseille lately has turned its attention to Youssoufa Moukoko of Borussia Dortmund. Personal arrangements with Moukoko are apparently agreed upon; they are working on a loan transaction with purchase option. This agreement indicates Marseille could give Nketiah less priority as it seems near to done.
What Is Happening To Eddie Nketiah?
Marseille’s other recent move consists of signing Mason Greenwood. Some contend that with these signings the Ligue 1 team can afford to pass on Nketiah. The Moukoko transaction, however, is a loan, hence their transfer budget has not been much reduced. This gives space for another sizable offer, maybe for Nketiah.
Marseille sold Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr then lost Pierre Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer. These deviations call for reinforcements in their offensive line. Roberto De Zerbi has to strengthen his team if he wants to challenge PSG. While adding Greenwood and Moukoko helps, getting Nketiah might provide more depth and quality.
The matter is still unclear. Marseille clearly shows interest in Nketiah, but they must satisfy Arsenal’s value. If they do, their offensive choices would much improve. If not, Nketiah can remain put or search for new prospects. From an Arsenal standpoint, maintaining Nketiah is hardly the worst result. He has a proven goal-scoring ability and room to develop. Should a decent deal fall short, Nketiah continues to be a great asset to the Gunners.
In the end, Marseille’s behavior over the next days will expose their priorities. They exhibit ambition if they advocate Nketiah. Arsenal keeps a gifted forward should they not. Though both results have advantages, the uncertainty gives this transfer window an interesting layer.
