For a while, Andrey Santos seemed like another name lost in Chelsea’s collection of promising signings. Yet this season, out on loan at Strasbourg, the Brazilian midfielder has forced people to take notice again. Still just 21, Santos has stepped up in Ligue 1 with consistent performances and end-product that few expected.
Chelsea’s approach to long-term contracts has begun to yield returns, though it hasn’t cleared up the future of every player. Santos, despite having a lengthy deal in place, still faces an uncertain path into the first team. And now, Arsenal have reportedly stepped in to test the waters.
As per Le 10 Sport, the Gunners are among eight clubs circling Santos, with a clear interest in securing his signature. Chelsea‘s decision to loan him out to Strasbourg worked in their favour, with Santos racking up nine goals in 31 league matches — a solid return for a central midfielder.
Arsenal Pushing to Secure Andrey Santos Signing
His technical ability, physicality, and positional awareness have improved significantly. However, even after such a season, a breakthrough at Stamford Bridge looks distant. Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are locked into the starting roles, while Romeo Lavia still lurks in the background. That leaves little breathing room for Santos, whose camp may now be open to opportunities elsewhere. Arsenal, looking to add depth and youthful energy to their midfield, might try to exploit this uncertainty. But convincing Chelsea to sell to a direct rival is no easy task, even if the two clubs have agreed on deals before.
From a footballing point of view, this makes sense for Arsenal. With Jorginho ageing and Thomas Partey likely to depart, there’s a midfield gap forming. Martin Zubimendi might arrive as the experienced option, but that shouldn’t prevent the club from also investing in someone like Santos, who can contribute now and grow into a larger role. He offers dynamism and a knack for finding goals from midfield — something Arsenal have lacked at times.
Mikel Arteta could use him as a rotational option with long-term upside. But the fee and Chelsea’s willingness will decide everything. If Arsenal truly want him, they may need to move quickly before others do. Santos has more to prove, but based on current form, he would be a smart addition. Whether he turns out to be a star or a squad player, signing him would show Arsenal’s intent to stay ahead of the curve.
