Chahar’s World Record Wins the series For India- With the series on the line, youngsters were under pressure to perform and win the series against Bangladesh. Youngsters didn’t let down the captain Rohit Sharma to outclass Bangladesh. A dream night for Deepak Chahar, as he hit the final nail in the coffin and ended the dreams of Bangladesh to lift the T20 trophy against India.
Naim attack on bowlers
Chasing 175, Bangladesh got some early blows by Chahar. They were reduced to 12-2 by Chahar, getting Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar on back-to-back balls. After that Mohammad Naim and Muithun brought Bangladesh back on track with a 98-run partnership. Naim was aggressive among the two. He hit three successive fours against the bowling of Chahal. He also bowling hit right-arm orthodox spinner Washington Sundar and medium-pacer Shivam Dube, to put the Bangladeshi team in a good position.
Comeback from Team India
In the 13th over, Chahar broke the partnership by taking the wicket of Mithun. Mithun scored 27 off 29 balls. Bangladesh needed 65 runs in seven overs to win the match and the series. On the next ball, Shivam Dube cleaned bowled Mushfiqur Rahim to get his first wicket. Further, in the next over, Dube bowled Naim out, who hit an aggressive 81 off only 48 balls. On the next ball, Afif Hossain was caught and bowled by Dube.
Although Dube couldn’t take a hat-trick, he left his first impression in International cricket, with three wickets in this match. Skipper Mahmudullah Riyadh couldn’t stop the collapse, as he was bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal.
India was clearly dominant at this position and finally, Chahar demolished the lower order of Bangladesh, to take a hat-trick split in two overs. He bagged six wickets conceding only seven runs, which are unbelievable numbers and also set a world record in T20Is. He broke the record of Srilankan mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis, who had a record of six wickets costing only eight runs against Zimbabwe in 2016. Bangladesh was all out for 160 and lost the series by 1-2.
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer hit the fifties to stable team India
Earlier Bangladeshi skipper Mahmudullah Riyadh chose to field first, after winning the toss. Bangladesh got an early breakthrough, as Shafiul Islam bowled Rohit Sharma in the second over. Lacklustre form of Dhawan continued, as he scored only 19 from 16 balls, with four boundaries to his name. Shreyas Iyer joined KL Rahul in the middle, as the two stitched a partnership of 59 runs. KL Rahul took charge, with calculative risks against bowlers of Bangladesh.
He completed his fifty off only 33 balls but got out on 52. His innings comprised of seven sublime boundaries, as he was looking to increase the run-rate. When Rishab Pant joined Iyer, India was well placed to go for a big score. Iyer was dropped on the second ball he played by Aminul Islam, so he played cautiously and as a second fiddle to KL Rahul.
After KL Rahul got out, Iyer took responsibility and hit some extraordinary strokes against the spinners. He hit three sixes on three successive balls in an over of spinner Afif Hossain. The Mumbaikar completed his fifty only in 27 balls.
Pant couldn’t find his mojo yet again and got bowled by Soumya Sarkar. Shreyas Iyer got out while trying to deliver a final blow to Bangladesh, on a slower delivery by Sarkar. He scored 62 runs off 33 balls, comprising of three boundaries and five mammoth sixes. In the last over, Manish Pandey hit three boundaries to take the score to 174. Manish scored 22 off 13 balls and Dube managed nine off eight balls.
