Wow! David Warner Compares Virat Kohli To Two Australian Players

Virat Kohli

The Indian captain Virat Kohli and the Australian swashbuckling opener, David Waner, is very aggressive on the field. Both of them are very competitive on the field. They want to win matches for their team and maintains their intensity on the field. Both of them even don’t shy back from having a go at each other on the field. However, Virat and Warner have a very good relationship off the cricket field. Both Kohli and Warner want to be the best on the field. Warner feels the desire to be the best is what is similar between them.

Warner reveals the similarities between him and Virat Kohli

He feels that they have to always prove someone wrong when they step on to the cricket field. They always want to be a better player than others in the middle. Warner outlines their passion for the game to be the incentive to give their 100 per cent on the field every time.

“I can not speak for Virat, obviously, but it is almost like we got this thing in us when we go (out to the middle) we need to prove people wrong, prove someone wrong. If you are in that contest, and if I am going at him for example, you’re thinking, ‘All right, I am going to score more runs than him, I am going to take a quick single on him. You are trying to better that person in that game. That is where the passion comes from,” Cricbuzz quoted David Warner.

India will tour Australia for a series later this year, according to the current schedule. We can expect another fierce battle between both sides like every other instance. However, there is no surety of the tour happening because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. However, David Warner reveals the small battles which heats an India-Australia encounter.

“Obviously you want to win the game but you almost break it down to. If I can score more runs than Virat, or if Pujara scores more runs than Steve Smith, you have these little contests and that is how you try to narrow the game in the sense that if we do these little things, we can be ahead of the game or we can be behind the game. The passion is driven by…I know my sense – one, the will to win and two, wanting to do better than that person in the opposition,” Warner said.

Warner outlines the difference between Kohli and Steve Smith

Warner even reveals the difference in approach between Virat Kohli and his team-mate Steve Smith. Both Kohli and Smith are currently two of the best players in the world. Warner feels Smith goes out in the middle to have fun, get a feel but does not want to get out. However, he says that Virat goes out intending to dominate. He also does not want to get out. However, he knows that if he spends time on the crease, he will score a lot of runs. That will ease the pressure on the players coming in.

“Virat’s passion and drive to score runs are different to what Steve’s would be,” Warner said while speaking to Harsha Bhogle on ‘Cricbuzz in Conversation.

“Steve is going out there for a hit in the middle, that’s how he sees things. He is hitting them out in the middle, he is having fun, he is enjoying himself, just does not want to get out.”

“Virat obviously does not want to get out but he knows if he spends a certain amount of time out there, he is going to score plenty of runs at a rapid rate. He is going to get on top of you. That allows the guys coming in, especially in the Indian team you have got a lot of players who can be flamboyant as well,” Warner said.
