Are Arsenal Slowly Turning Into A Mid-Table Club Under Arsene Wenger?

The Struggle So Far-

Having started the season off with two wins, it has just gone downhill since then for Arsenal FC. Even so, the transfers at the club have not gone according to plan and with the Alexis Sanchez situation, it seems like the Arsenal board isn’t highly qualified enough. They beat Chelsea on penalties to clinch the Community Shield at the start of the campaign and got three points against Leicester City on the opening weekend of the Premier league.

Since then, the club has faced nothing but problems. A soul-less performance from Arsene Wenger’s side resulted in a 1-0 loss to Stoke City at the Potters’ home stadium which raised the same question again, Are Arsenal good enough to challenge for the title?

And that was just the beginning of things to come, a week later Arsenal faced further humiliation at the hands of Liverpool, as they were battered 4-0 at Anfield, with Chilean star Alexis Sanchez making his first appearance of the season.

The frustrations were shown by the forward with just minutes into the game when he was seen throwing his arms up in restlessness. Another weak performance by the team saw Sanchez withdrawn just 15 minutes into the second half.

Sanchez has clearly stated that he wants to play for a club in the Champions League, and with Arsenal failing to qualify for the elite tournament last season put the club in jeopardy of losing their best player to a top European club.

Things just went worse for the Wenger, when winger Alex Oxlade Chamberlain decided to make a switch to Premier League rivals Liverpool just before the transfer deadline day.

The English midfielder claimed he wanted to take his game to the next level, which just proved that Arsenal were no longer a defiant force to reckon with.

Behind the scenes, Arsenal were looking to offload Sanchez to Real Madrid as they knew the way the Spanish giants splash out their transfer fees for players. But it wasn’t to be, as the Los Blancos boss, Zinedine Zidane refused to accept a bid, as the Frenchman already has many star quality footballers at his disposal.

Sanchez was priced around £69m and his contract runs out next summer which makes him a free agent. Arsenal claimed, they did not go through with the Sanchez deal as AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar did not want to join the Gunners.

Failed signings, bad results, no great transfers and under-performing players brings up the question as to are what is wrong with Arsenal football club.

This just brings up another question, “Is Arsenal’s board good enough to take the club forward?”

What Next For The Gunners?

The club from north London is not having the best of times and is not really performing at the level that they would have been expected to do, in the recent weeks. Though they still have an FA Cup title to defend, there needs to be better co-ordination and link-up play among the players and fast, else some poor results might end their title hopes quite early in the campaign.
