BCCI To Make Final Decision Regarding Participation Of Ahmedabad Franchise In IPL 2022

As much excitement surrounds the two new clubs in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022), there is still uncertainty about what will happen to the existing Ahmedabad franchise, which was purchased by CVC Sports. Even though there have been several murmurs about the matter, there is yet to be a decision made by the BCCI over whether or not to award the Gujrat-based franchise.

The recent Tweet that was sent out by Lalit Modi about IPL 2022

To be more specific, they have remained deafeningly mum on the subject. However, it has been learned that the counsel of a former Supreme Court judge has been sought, and the outcome of his advice is now pending. While in an ideal situation, granting the franchise to the second-highest bidder if CVC Sports is denied the right to control the club seems to be the proper decision, according to a report by Cricbuzz. Professional opinion has advised against this course of action.

Only 48 hours after CVC Sports completed the purchase of the Ahmedabad franchise for Rs. 5,625 crores, legal problems arose over the transaction. The CVCCP was called into question because it was engaging in dealings with foreign betting companies. Lalit Modi, a former IPL commissioner, had even made a tweet regarding the situation. “I guess betting companies can buy a @ipl team. Must be a new rule. Apparently, one qualified bidder also owns a big betting company. Does @BCCI not do homework. What can anti-corruption do in such a case?”

However, despite the uncertainty, there seems to be a confident sense that everything will be resolved in the end. According to the Indian Express, the BCCI does not seem to have any objections to the purchase of the Ahmedabad franchise in the Indian Premier League. This is mostly because the Asian fund of a worldwide corporation, which purchased the licence, has no affiliations with any gambling establishments.

The Asian funds managed by CVC do not have any ties to betting companies: BCCI Official

“CVC has two funds: European funds and Asian funds. While its European funds have ties to (sports betting) organisations in jurisdictions where gambling is permitted, its Asian fund is free of such ties. They also made an investment from their Asian fund. That’s the general consensus. The BCCI is still likely to appoint a committee in the coming days to be doubly reinvested into attending the AGM,” as reported to the Sunday Express.

Consequently, the BCCI would be required to decide the future of the new team. If CVC is denied the right to buy the club, there will, according to reports, be a rebidding process. This, on the other hand, might create a snag in the scheduled timetable for the 15th season of the Indian Premier League.

On the other hand, Ahmedabad franchisee contacts Shreyas Iyer has been identified as the new captain of the Ahmedabad squad for the next IPL season in 2022. The Delhi Capitals was previously led by Shreyas Iyer. According to the article, the new franchise must reach an agreement with the players.

Hardik Pandya, David Warner, and Quinton de Kock are all on the radar of the Ahmedabad franchise, as are several other players. According to reports, two of the three might be selected in addition to Shreyas Iyer. Since then, the BCCI has said that it would not enter into any agreements with the players of the new franchises in Lucknow and Ahmedabad.
