According to the latest reports, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are looking to snap up a  deal for Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette in the summer transfer window in a bid to bolster their squad. The Rojiblancos are looking for a backup option that can replace the departing World Cup winning attacker Antoine Griezmann who looks to be on his way to Barcelona.

Unai Emery had a mixed season in his debut campaign with Arsenal in the Premier League this season after replacing the legendary Arsene Wenger at the helm. The veteran 69-year-old Wenger was in charge of Arsenal for 22 long years and won plenty of major honors with the club, including three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups during his tenure. But towards the final few seasons of his reign as Arsenal boss, even the most ardent of Gooners wanted the Frenchman out of the club because Wenger was unable to adapt to the newer generation of managers and players. Arsenal were in dire need of some fresh air into the club and Emery provided just that after his appointment.

The 47-year-old Spanish boss managed to implement his philosophy into the club when he arrived in North London and most of his summer signings hit the ground running. Emery took Arsenal on a 22 game unbeaten streak across all competitions and a top-four berth looked quite certain. But a stunning collapse towards the back end of the season meant that Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table and ineligible to play in the Champions League. The north London outfit had another chance of making it into the elite tournament if they beat Chelsea in the final of the Europa League but the Blues handed their local London rivals a 4-1 hammering in Baku.

This indicated that Emery has a big task on his hands to reinforce his team in the summer and beyond if Arsenal are to win titles on a regular basis. But Arsenal also need to keep hold of their key players that could be poached by bigger clubs on the European continent. A player who has been in great form since signing for Arsenal back in the summer of 2017 has been Alexandre Lacazette and the Frenchman is now a transfer target for Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.

Lacazette scored 13 goals last season in the Premier League and five more in the Europa League. He also notched up eight assists but failed to neither help Arsenal win silverware nor compete in the Champions League. Lacazette is disappointed and could move to a club that can offer him a chance at winning titles on a regular basis before he ends his career.

The Arsenal marksman is now a target for Simeone and Atletico Madrid as the Spanish club are set to lose out on their key attacker Antoine Griezmann this summer. The 27-year-old is linked with a move to Camp Nou to join Barcelona and Atleti are prepared to sign 28-year-old forward Alexandre Lacazette as a potential replacement.
