Confirmed: Thibaut Courtois Agrees Terms With Real Madrid, What Does This Mean For Chelsea?

Real Madrid and Chelsea have reached an agreement for Thibaut Courtois in this summer transfer window. Thibaut Courtois has only year left in the contract with Chelsea FC. The club management have asked Courtois to extend his contract. But the player did not agree to extend his contract after several talks with the club management. The Belgian star Goalkeeper has repeatedly asked his desire to join the Madrid side. Former Atletico Madrid’s Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’ family still stay at Madrid as they have not moved to London after the joining of Courtois to Chelsea FC few seasons back.

Thibaut Courtois has recently won the Golden Gloves award in the World Cup as the Goalkeeper has saved 27 shots on target in Russia. Chelsea club management have identified the talent within Thibaut Courtois many seasons back.

The club management of Chelsea FC have brought Thibaut Courtois to Chelsea in the transfer window of 2011-12 season from KRC Genk with a transfer fee around £4m. After that, the London club have loaned the Belgian Goalkeeper to Atletico Madrid in that season. There was no scope for Thibaut Courtois to break into the starting lineup of Chelsea FC at that point of time as the Czech Republic’s Goalkeeper Petr Cech was in the form of his life at that point of time. After that, Thibaut Courtois had a great 3 seasons’ loan spell at Atletico Madrid. The Belgian star Goalkeeper had won the Golden Gloves in the La Liga too. Courtois was the integral part of the squad of Atletico Madrid when they had won the La Liga in 2013-14 season.

After that great loan spell Thibaut Courtois was brought back in the Chelsea FC side in the summer transfer window of 2014-15 season. Still Thibaut Courtois had to face a strong competition against Petr Cech to get into the starting lineup of the Blues in that season. After the departure of Petr Cech in the summer transfer window of 2015-16 season, Thibaut Courtois became the main Goalkeeper of Chelsea FC. Thibaut Courtois has won two Premier League titles and 1 FA Cup title with the Blues so far.

It was quite clear from few days ago that the Belgian Goalkeeper is going to join the Madrid Giants in this summer transfer window. It is assumed that the deal is finalized with around £35m transfer fee. His national side’s teammate Eden Hazard is also heavily linked with Real Madrid to make a move to the Spanish side in this summer transfer window. Chelsea are still trying to find the alternative of Thibaut Courtois in this summer transfer window. The club management of Chelsea FC are willing to lodge a record bid of £70m for the star Brazilian Goalkeeper Alisson. But they are going to face a strong competition from Liverpool to sign this Goalkeeper in this summer transfer window. Otherwise they will target to get Kasper Schmeichel or Jack Butland in this summer to solve their Goalkeeper issue. The club management of the Blues will try to sort things as quickly as possible.

What Does This Mean For Chelsea?

It means that Sarri will now have to look for a new goalkeeper to bring in this summer. A leader and a top player, who can replace Courtois between the sticks and can help them win more titles in the days to come. The Blues already failed to finish in the top four in the previous campaign and will now want to change that, in the days to come. For that purpose, they will need a solid goalie at the back and it will be interesting to see whom they sign now.
