He did not have the best of games and eventually, they turned on him to an extent and the decision to play him. This got skipper Virat Kohli some harsh criticism as well.

SPAIN VS ITALY: IS IT COMING ROME?!

Last night we encountered one of the best matches we’ve seen so far in this roller-coaster of a tournament. The first semi-final of the Euro 2020 kicked off as Spain went up against Italy at the famous Wembley Stadium in London. As both the teams were coming off a win in their respected quarter-finals with the finest of the margins, neither of them was a certain favourite for this match, a derby which has been of the highest significance for many decades.

Luis Enrique’s lineup certainly raised some doubts as both their strikers, Morata and Moreno were benched. With their in-form winger Sarabia also missing out on this ever so important game with an injury he took last game, Spain’s attack was looking shaky on paper. Meanwhile, the Azzurri had just one forced change, Emerson coming in for Spinazzola who suffered an injury vs Belgium.

How The Game Between The Two Top European Sides Ended Eventually?

Spain completely dominated the ball possession (70%) throughout the match. They were brilliant with an xG (expected goals) of 1.52, more than twice what Italy could manage. Goalkeepers on both ends were on their toes for every minute of the game as shots galore from both sides, with 16 coming from the Spaniards while seven from Italy.

Neither of the teams could score in the first half. Soon after the second half started, Federico Chiesa scored an absolute beauty as Italy broke the deadlock to make it 1-0. A much-needed Morata came on in the 60th minute of the game. With less than ten minutes remaining, the super sub found an equalizer. The Spanish side was now looking more confident than ever. They now had the momentum to win but were racing against the time.

Spain went to extra time for the third time in nine days. Eventually, it was their second penalty shoot-out. The very player because of which they were able to equalize went on to miss the most decisive penalty of their tournament. Alvaro Morata failed to dispatch it from the spot. Italy won 4-2 on penalties. They booked their spot for the final of Euro 2020. That is where they’ll play England.
