Matchweek 5 of the Premier League had a number of good games in prospect and they did not fail to deliver. While all the big guns had a decent day at the office, with Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, all winning their respective matches, the biggest shock of the weekend was obviously the hard-fought win that Norwich City earned against the defending champions Manchester City in their own backyard.

What A Shocking Result As Manchester City Falls To Norwich

This defeat instates Liverpool, who notched up a 3-1 win against Newcastle United at Anfield, as the league leaders with five wins from their five games so far this term. Arsenal is set to take on Watford in their Premier League encounter this weekend later today.

The Reds went down early in the match to a superb strike from Jetro Willems in the 7th minute but came back strongly into the game as Sadio Mane scored a brace in the first half itself and Mohamed Salah adding a third, having been set up with a brilliant assist from Roberto Firmino in the second half. The result sees Liverpool strengthen their position at the top of the table but has pushed Newcastle United down to the 17th position as they find themselves at the threshold of entering the relegation zone.

The Story Of The Other Teams And Their Progress

Manchester United was bogged down by a number of injuries. They went in against a tough Leicester City side at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were awarded a penalty early in the match. Caglar Soyuncu’s challenge on Marcus Rashford was adjudged unfair.

The Englishman stepped up to take the spot-kick. He converted it successfully to give his side an early lead. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were successful in keeping the slender difference alive until the end of the match. They bagged three very crucial points. This could have gone either way, getting them among the top four in the league table.

Tottenham Hotspur dominated the proceedings from the word go in their match against Crystal Palace. The north Londoners scored four in the first half itself. This was enough to end all hopes of a revival for the Eagles. Heung Min-Son was the star of the show. He scored a brace while an own goal from Patrick Van Aanholt widened the difference for the North London side. Eric Lamela joined the party with a goal in the 42nd minute as well. Mauricio Pochettino’s side bagged three points to lift them to the third position in the Premier League table.

Another London side, this time from the west, Chelsea, also had a productive day at the office as their Academy products notched up a brilliant 5-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux. Young defender Fikayo Tomori opened the scoring with a goal that will surely go down as one of the top contenders for the goal of the season. Tammy Abraham kept his good form going as the striker notched up a hat-trick against Wolves, his first one in a Chelsea shirt.

The Summary Of The Game That Manchester City Lost To Norwich

The hosts tried to lodge a fightback. That was with goals from Romain Saiss (which was later adjudged as an own goal by Tammy Abraham) and Patrick Cutrone. Despite that, Mason Mount ended their hopes in the last minute of added time. He slotted the ball past the keeper and into the net. This win pushes Chelsea to the sixth position in the Premier League table.

The defending champions travelled to Carrow Road to take on the Canaries. The game against Norwich turned out to be an entertaining fixture for both sets of fans. Contrary to the popular notion of the Citizens sweeping Daniel Farke’s men off their feet, the hosts took the lead with two quickfire goals in the first half before Sergio Aguero reduced the deficit right at the stroke of halftime.

However, it was again that man, Teemu Pukki. The striker punished the champions in the 50th minute. That was by putting the ball in the net. The visitors brought one back with a goal from Rodrigo in the 88th minute. However, it was too little too late for them. Farke’s men registered a shock win over one of the best teams in Europe in nail-biting fashion.

It was indeed an exciting weekend. There is more to come. Arsenal played out a poor 2-2 draw against Watford. It is to be seen whether the appointment of Quique Sanchez Flores as the new manager can turn the fortune in favour of the Hornets. Or will the Gunners come out on top? It is expected to be an exciting fixture to round off a weekend full of action.
