According to the latest reports, the Gunners are reportedly planning a shock move to sign Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata in the upcoming winter transfer window. The Spaniard could make a move to the Emirates following his contract that ends next summer and Arsenal are monitoring his situation at the moment.

Arsenal is currently going through a great spell under new manager Unai Emery at the moment. The Gunners have won the last 12 of their thirteen games in all competitions and are definitely on the up and rising. Emery has done a great job getting Mesut Ozil, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette firing for the new campaign especially after taking over from legendary manager Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman was in charge of Arsenal for 24 years and won the Premier League trophy 3 times and the FA Cup seven times when in charge of the North London club.

With almost everything moving in the right direction for Arsenal at the moment, the only worrying factor at the club is the contract situation for midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman’s current contract expires in the summer and he is yet to sign a new deal with the club in order to extend his stay. However, the issue remains that Ramsey is demanding a massive pay hike which the Arsenal board are not willing to comply with at the moment. Therefore, this tense situation between club and player could not end well and Ramsey might as well leave for free in the summer transfer window or as quickly as the January transfer window itself in the winter.

Therefore, Arsenal is on the lookout for replacements for the 27-year-old box to box midfielder and have lined up a few options. In a recent report, Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata. The two clubs have done business before when Robin Van Persie was allowed to move to Old Trafford and the recent exchange of players involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexis Sanchez last winter transfer window. Therefore a deal could take place and there is no ruling out a move for Mata as the two clubs are fine doing business with each other despite being massive rivals in the Premier League.

The worrying part for Arsenal though would be that Mata is already 30 years old and his contract expires next summer. So the Spanish midfielder would not come cheap and will soon be entering his twilight years if he joins Arsenal even anytime soon. His lack of pace could be another issue for Emery but there are some big plus points as well.

The addition of Mata to Arsenal could mean that he would divide the workload on play-maker Mesut Ozil and the German could be used more to add balance to the team. On the ball, Mata is quite a specialist at creating opportunities and there is no doubt that he would add more firepower to Arsenal’s already impressive front line. Do you think Arsenal should bid for Mata in the winter transfer window?
