Talking Points: Chelsea Vs Manchester United; As Red Devils Stun Blues At Home

Chelsea vs Manchester United Update:

Chelsea have faced third consecutive defeat against Manchester United in this season on Monday at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have certainly lost their grip in the top four race after this defeat. On the other hand, Manchester United are back in it as they are only three points behind Chelsea at this moment.

Here are the talking points of Chelsea vs Manchester United:

1. Chelsea Should Have Taken The Lead In The First Half:

The Blues have started the match in a positive note. Chelsea have been the better side in the pitch in the first half. They have created so many opportunities, but lack of a proper finisher has been the reason for their downfall throughout the whole season. Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi have not been in the starting lineup of the Blues because of injuries. Pedro and Michy Batshuayi have started in place of these two players. Michy Batshuayi has been awful throughout the whole match for the Blues. The lack of a proper backup centre forward might keep Chelsea out of the top four race this season.

2. Anthony Martial’s Header:

Anthony Martial’s header just before the half time mark has completely changed the dimension of the match. Chelsea have been controlling the match with more possession. However, their confidence level has gone down a bit after conceding the first goal. Andreas Christensen has picked a knock just before the goal of Manchester United. Cesar Azpilicueta has been playing as the temporary centre back at that moment. So, Willian has been trying to prevent the cross of Aaron Wan Bissaka. However, Aaron Wan Bissaka’s cross has been perfect.

The header of Anthony Martial has been perfectly placed in the net. Willy Caballero has also not been in the proper position at the time of the goal. He should have tried to save the ball going towards the goal. His timing of the jump has been late. Manchester United have got the crucial lead at the break.

3. Luck Has Not Been In The Side Of Chelsea:

The luck has not been favouring Chelsea FC on the given day. N’Golo Kante has to be taken off at the 10th minute of the match and Mason Mount has been introduced. Andreas Christensen has also picked up a knock. He has to be subbbed off in the second half. So, these two forced changes have created a huge impact on the gameplay. Two goals of the Blues have been disallowed by VAR. One of the free kicks of Mason Mount has struck the post. Chelsea have failed to break the deadlock till the end of 90 minutes.

4. Harry Maguire’s Winner In The Second Half:

Harry Maguire’s header has gone to the goal and Manchester United have sealed all three points from this encounter. Chelsea’s defensive unit has looked disorganized in every set piece movement. Manchester United have taken complete advantage of it. The Red Devils could have scored one or two more goals, but Willy Caballero has saved a few shots at the end. Manchester United have won the match with ease at the end to stay in the top four race and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked delighted with the result.

It was a good game for the Red Devils and their surprise January signing Odin Ighalo made his debut for the Premier League giants. Recently, Solskjaer had suggested that Ighalo could join them permanently at the end of his loan spell, which would have been a huge boost for the player. He had some good chances to score, though he just couldn’t get the job done on the night. Hopefully, he can get some goals to boost his confidence soon.
