2. Poor Start to the campaign:
The Gunners started their league campaign on the wrong side of a seven-goal thriller against Liverpool. Theo Walcott had missed a penalty but immediately scored a fine goal in the next minute, but Philippe Coutinho’ s brilliant free-kick made arsenal take a step back and from there the post momentum which resulted in Liverpool scoring 4 goals in the span of 20 minutes. Although arsenal didn’t hold back and made a courageous comeback with Chamberlain fine solo effort and Calum Chambers heading perfectly in the net from a set piece taken by Santi Cazorla.
In their their second fixture Arsenal were welcomed by the Champions at the King Power Stadium. The Spaniard was denied by Kasper Schmeichel from a perfect free-kick which was going inwards, Both sides were looking good in attack but neither of them found the net in a dull draw. Arsenal had clear chances in the game they where looking brilliant in the attack but could not finish them which clearly states that Arsene Wenger still has a bit of a business to do in the transfer market.
Though the Londoners eventually beat Watford 3-1, with Cazorla looking good in their third game, the 5 points that they lost in the opening two weeks might haunt them as the season goes on.
1. Injury Woes:
Arsenal and “injuries”, a match made in heaven, isn’t it ? For over a decade Arsenal have dealt with many major injury blows to first team players. Be it this season their captain Per Mertasacker, who will miss almost of half of the season ( 5 months ) and Danny Welbeck also set to return at the Christmas makes Arsene’s first half of the season even more miserable. Gabriel Paulista is also set to miss a couple of months of action and Wenger has very few options to play at the back and must act quickly.
Alex Iwobi and Aaron Ramsey are also sidelined with problems and things do not look that good in terms of quality, on the bench. The season still has a long way to go and Arsene has big task ahead of him to do.
