3. Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid & France)
Unquestionably one of the stars of last year and the Euros, Griezmann proved his mettle with both club and country, helping Atletico Madrid to the Champions League Final which they lost on penalties to eternal rivals Real Madrid for a second time in 3 years, he then helped Les Bleus to the final of Euro 2016, which they lost at home soil, but it did not prevent him from winning the Golden Ball and Golden Boot for best player and highest goal scorer of the competition. He was pipped yet again by Cristiano Ronaldo in the race to be crowned the best European player of the year, what remains to be seen is whether Griezmann can continue his penchant for scoring goals, having found the net 32 times for Atletico Madrid and 6 goals in the Euros for France.
2. Luis Suárez (Barcelona & Uruguay)
On the back of a spectacular season with Barcelona, having plundered 54 goals in just 48 games, Luis Suárez would have hoped to cap it off with another memorable run in the Copa America Centenario, which was not meant to be, after he sustained an injury in the Copa Del Rey Final, although he couldn’t help Barcelona to a second consecutive European honour, he did pair astoundingly well with Neymar and Leo Messi, and aided them in their performances to showcase the most lethal attacking trio in the world of football today.
