Reportedly Liverpool have beaten both Chelsea and Manchester City, in the race to buy Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton. The Dutch defender has been performing well at Southampton and has became one of the bests in the Premier League. He joined Southampton from Celtic back in 2015 and has been playing as the main centre-back of his side. His exceptional performance has attracted the Premier League giants and it is probable that he might move to take his game to the next level.
According to the recent reports, the 25 year old was offered a £200,000 per week contract, from Pep Guardiola’s side and the newly crowned Premier League champions, who were confident of signing him, though he wanted to join the Kops.
Thus, it is still unknown why he decided to prefer the Reds over their rivals, though Klopp could be one of the major reasons for this decision.
The recent interest from the Merseyside outfit caught the attention of the defensive superstar, who will now be moving to Anfield in the days to come.
There were some complications in the deal going through, with the Saints raising an issue about an improper approach towards the player, that Klopp’s side had made.
Despite that, it seems more or less, that the move should go through and the player will be part of the German manager’s team, next term.
The fee for the deal is said to be of around £60m, though the fans around the globe were still having doubts whether the player was worth the money or not.
