Story So Far:
For almost two season’s Antoine Griezmann has been heavily linked with the Red Devils, who are ready to shatter the world record fee once again to the land the France international. However, after the end of the 2016/17 season Atletico Madrid received a huge set back as the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld their transfer ban which meant that although they could sign players but none of them would be registered and will not be able play for them until January 2018. This is a similar ban that Barcelona had received two seasons ago.
Due to this decision the 26 year old did not want to leave the Rojiblancos suffering for half a season which could very well blow out their chances to be in the race for the league title, Griezmann was not at all ready to leave the club in this situation, So he decided to rejected a few lucrative offers to stay in the capital.
On top of that the 26 year old also signed a new deal which will end in 2022, which now clearly states his long term commitment to the club.
In the August edition of FourFourTwo, the forward explained that once Atletico’s ban ends he will start looking for other options and has also stated that he had to stay because of the ban and no other thing influenced his decision.
Griezmann stated this as the main reason for his stay in Madrid, though he might have wanted to make the move to Old Trafford, this summer.
“To be honest, I do not know. I am going to be here next season, after that we will see.”
“It is absurd to talk about something more than a year away.”
“I stayed main because of the ban. Atletico need me more than ever. It would be dirty to leave.”
” I would not have been myself or the person that I feel I am today, if I had left the club in that way.”
The Frenchman’s loyalty is immense for the club and even the fans and the club would not want to keep him out of pity. Griezmann last term scored 26 goals across all competitions and he too cares about the club and has time to time again proved it too.
Although he has stated that he will take a call on his future next summer which certainly will make Manchester United fans thinking about the big money deal which may resurrect in future again.
The French international also spoke about his footballing idol David Beckham and how he has a major influence on his career, which could be a further hint about where he wants to be, in the near future.
Does Manchester United need him?
Well. The answer is obviously a big, wait I mean, huge “YES”. I mean, who would say not to Griezmann. The guy can not just make the Red Devils, the champions of England, but could help them lift the Champions League as well.
Mourinho should stop wasting money on players like Lukaku and save it for the attacker, who has not just a great runner with the ball, but a super finisher and a team player as well.
Taking nothing away from the Belgian international, he is no Griezmann though. Like our page on Facebook if you agree and for more updates. Peace!!
