Match Report : Manchester United Continue Perfect Start To The Season With Another Impressive Win

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United cruised to victory once again in their third game of the season, as they thrashed Leicester City 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday. New signing Romelu Lukaku missed a penalty, though it was a goal scored each by super-subs Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini that gave the Red Devils a comfortable win, after a frustrating first time, though they dominated most of the match.
Vardy and Mahrez did not seem to have the co-ordination that won their team the league and Danny Drinkwater was really missed on the night as well.
After coming close on many occasions, United’s dominance was finally rewarded in the second half, when the England international finally scored from a corner-kick, which he earned after making a superb run.
The Portuguese manager stuck to Mata for an hour or so, before making the change finally and though Kasper Schmeichel made a super save initially for the Lukaku penalty, could have done better with this one.
Both teams had good chances to score goals, especially United, though it was not until the 70th minute that the deadlock was broken.
Mourinho’s substitutions paid off, as Rashford, Lingard and Fellaini, all made an impact in the game, helping his team secure an easy win.
There was still some hope of securing a draw for the Foxes, with 20 minutes of normal time sill left to play. However, with eight minutes remaining in the match, the Belgian international managed to double the lead, killing any hopes of a possible recovery.
The Red Devils maintained their 100% win record and have made the perfect start to the new campaign, putting more pressure on their rivals to keep winning, as we head into the international break next week.
Arsenal will face Liverpool on Sunday, along with Chelsea-Everton, the result of which will have huge implications on the title race. West Brom will face Stoke City, while Spurs play Burnley.
Things could get really interesting in the days to follow, depending on how these games end and which teams come on top, in these high intensity battles.
United have already left their mark on the new campaign, with the most positive start that would be possible for any team. Three wins in three games, with 10 goals to their name and no goals conceded.
Some would argue that Fellaini was offside for the second goal, though it seems that both the Manchester based clubs had things going their way this week, with a little bit of luck favouring them.
With the teams now heading into the international break, the Old Trafford faithful would be hoping that none of the players get injured and they are fit and ready to go, once the friendly fixtures are over.
Mourinho would not want to throw away all the hard-work that his team has done and it will be now in their hands to make something more out of the upcoming fixtures, as they look to win the league this term.
