Chelsea had thrashed Stoke City on Saturday at the Bet365 Stadium with an emphatic margin of 4-0. Morata’s hat trick was the second hat trick by any Chelsea player in two successive matches after Batshuayi scored the hat trick against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup match.
Conte made three changes in the starting line up from the previous match against Arsenal in the previous weekend. Christensen, Rudiger and Bakayoko came in place of David Luiz, Cahill and Fabregas respectively.
Hughes was also obliged to get Sobhi and Johnson in for injured Shawcross and Kurt Zouma being unavailable as per his loan deal between Chelsea and Stoke.
Morata gave Chelsea the lead in the 2nd minute of the match by following a great through ball provided by Cesar Azpilicueta.
Soon Pedro doubled the lead at 20th minute with a brilliant shot placing the ball at the right corner of the net where Stoke Goalkeeper Butland had no clue. The first half ended with Chelsea leading with 2-0 at the break.
The second half had started in a good way for Stoke as they were showing good attacking intents. Kante and Alonso were booked in the match.
Alonso was taken off soon to field Gary Cahill whose experience was needed at the defense then for Chelsea. Fabregas and Hazard also came in the second half as they were rested in this match keeping the upcoming Champions League Match in 3 days.
Crouch also replaced Jese and Afellay came in for Martins Indi for Stoke in the second half. Stoke was trying to get back in the match but for that their defense became weaker and Morata capitalized on that.
At the 77th minute a brilliant solo run from the midfield by Morata and he scored a beautiful goal by passing three defenders with ease by his pace.
He had completed his hat trick on 82nd minute when a brilliant ball provided by Fabregas was passed to him by Azpilicueta. The match was ended with Chelsea winning it with a 4-0 scoreline.
With this win Chelsea have earned 13 points from 6 matches and they’re currently at 3rd position in the League table just behind two Manchester Clubs in catching distance. Now, They will face a tough test away against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League.
What Does This Mean For Conte And His Team?
Chelsea are at present in third place, right behind both the Manchester clubs who have been superb this season. Though, Conte would have not been happy with his team’s performance initially, he will be delighted by the way that they have recovered so far.
The team has grown as a unit, only justifying the Italian manager’s trust in his side and it will have given him some satisfaction, after the early scare at the start of the new campaign.
