Jose Mourinho Compares This Manchester United Superstar To A Chelsea Legend

Jose Mourinho

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has stated that it shouldn’t be long before new summer arrival Victor Lindelof becomes a star at the club. Lindelof was the first summer acquisition for Mourinho, as the Portuguese manager confirmed his signature as early as June.

But Lindelof hasn’t been able to find himself in the first team squad in the Premier League as yet. Due to the competition in defense with the likes of Eric Bailey, Phil Jones, Dailey Blind and Marcos Rojo, the former Benfica defender has found it difficult to actually adapt to his new surroundings.

However, his manager has given him faith and belief that Lindelof will one day go on to become a club legend. Mourinho used his example of his countryman Ricardo Carvalho at Chelsea.

During Mourinho’s first spell at Chelsea, Carvalho found it hard to adapt to the Premier League when he arrived from Portugal but went on to become a Chelsea great at Stamford Bridge. Similarly, Mourinho has stated that it won’t take too long for Lindelof to become a regular and its just a matter of time.

Speaking earlier in a presser just before his side faced Basel in a Champions League encounter at Manchester on Tuesday night, the United boss stated, “You know, we take it step by step. [At Chelsea] we had one of the best central defenders in the Premier League’s last decade, Ricardo Carvalho, and when he arrived from Portugal he was in trouble a little bit to adapt.”

“Then he had an amazing career in the Premier League after that and I am sure Victor will be the same.”

“So it is good for him to play in the Champions League and probably he won’t play at the weekend, but he will play again next week in the [Carabao] Cup so matches are coming for him.”

The Red Devils will return to the Premier League this weekend and face a tough task in the form of Merseyside club Everton. They will be looking to get back to winning ways after a 2-2 draw United played out against Stoke last weekend at the Bet365stadium.

United currently sit on top of the Premier League level on points with local rivals Manchester City, but lead the blue side of Manchester on goal difference.

Mourinho Doing A Better Job Than Conte?

On one hand, Jose Mourinho is trying to lift the spirit of his players who are on the bench at the moment, while on the other hand, the Diego Costa saga goes on and things don’t look good for the Spanish international, as his career with the west London outfit draws to a close.

This will surely be a loss for the champions of England, though the way that Costa had behaved in recent times, was not really delightful as well. The Italian manager is not wrong in letting go of the attacker, though he would surely have wished that things would have ended in a different manner and it was not this ugly.

Costa did help Chelsea quite a few titles during his time with the club. Like us for more.
