Manchester United Linked With Real Madrid Midfielder, With Mourinho Hopeful Of Signing (Not Bale)

Jose Mourinho

The Transfer Rumour-

Jose Mourinho still believes that his Manchester United squad requires more quality and depth and his most recent target has been Real Madrid’s Casemiro. The Brazilian midfielder has been tremendous for Real Madrid in the centre of the pitch as he has helped them to two consecutive Champions League titles and the La Liga last season. The Red Devils suffered a shock loss at the hands of newly promoted Huddersfield Town last weekend and it showed the lack of depth in their team, though they did manage a narrow 1-0 win over Tottenham at home. With Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini on the side-lines, Mourinho was forced to play Herrera and Matic in the center of the pitch.

Liverpool faced Manchester United at Anfield and the visitors were lucky to come away with a point after being totally dominated by the Merseyside club. However, Huddersfield scored two goals due to defensive frailties and shocked the Europa league winners with a win.

United were also without Eric Baily, which gave Victor Lindelof a start at the weekend and it was a horror show for the former Benfica man, whose two costly errors allowed Huddersfield to score twice.

Mourinho is now looking to replace his injured players and securing a back-up option in midfield after ace midfielder Paul Pogba’s injury. The Frenchman was instrumental for United since the start of the season but was forced off during a Champions League encounter which saw the Manchester outfit’s intensity in games drop ever since.

Casemiro is not a like for like replacement for Pogba, but is someone who can read the game really well and control the ball in midfield to keep his side ticking. The Brazilian defensive midfielder is solid in his tacking and has the ability to pass and beat players on the ball. At just 25 years of age, Casemiro still has the best part of his career ahead of him.

United would certainly benefit from Casemiro as he is a key player for Real Madrid and the European champions may not be willing to sell him. With Luka Modric, Isco, Toni Kroos and other youngsters stepping up to the occasions it would be difficult to bring him back into the regular first team squad.

After nine games their local rivals Manchester City have already gained a 5 point lead over United and Mourinho’s attempt at a League title is already slipping away due to injured players. Casemiro’s addition to United could be a perfect fit as the Portuguese boss strives on the characteristics of such a player.

A Must Win Game?

The game against Chelsea is surely a must-win match for the Red Devils, who face off against Benfica in the Champions League today. Jose Mourinho’s side will want to win this game and travel to Stamford Bridge, with the minimum possible injuries and win the upcoming fixture against the Blues as well.

They need to keep getting the maximum number of points possible, as they look to catch up with their fierce domestic rivals Manchester City, who are dominating every game at the moment.
