Usually when Real Madrid target a player from any other club they make sure to land them at the Santiago Bernabeu irrelevant of the price. And with the European champions currently struggling for form this season, they are desperate to bring in De Gea back to Madrid as quickly as they can to replace Costa Rican keeper Keylor Navas.
Manchester United fans will now be holding their breath for as long as the Spanish champions are interested in signing their talismanic star De Gea. And the Madrid side is willing to offer a mouth-watering deal to the Red Devils in order to acquire the deal to go through.
Reports have claimed that the Real Madrid board is willing to offer Keylor Navas and Mateo Kovacic as well as the transfer fees to lure the Spanish number 1 to the Bernabeu from Old Trafford. De Gea has been immense for Manchester United since his arrival from La Liga club Atletico Madrid in 2011 for a fee of £18.9m. He has been described as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has saved United from dropping points on several occasions. His punching of the ball away from danger, aerial prowess, ball handling, and command in the penalty area have improved significantly which makes him a real star between the sticks.
De Gea has been arguably Man United’s best player over the past couple of seasons and their boss Jose Mourinho will be wary of letting him go in the winter transfer window or in the summer-time after the FIFA World Cup in Russia. And although De Gea’s contract with United expires in 2019 the Red side of Manchester will want him to pen a contract extension which would keep him at the club for a longer time.
United will be assessing a deal with Madrid as they feel that their squad could receive reinforcements in the form of Kovacic in midfield to partner Paul Pogba and Keylor Navas as a replacement for De Gea.
Navas has also been essential to Real Madrid having won them two Champions League trophies as their first choice keeper over the past two seasons and United may consider a bid. In addition to the two extra players, they will receive a huge sum of money which would go up to £87 million, which really is a mouth-watering deal extremely difficult to reject. United could use the transfer fees to strengthen their squad even further.
If De Gea moves to Madrid, which he has hinted in preferring to do, he has the ability to change the Spanish champions’ season around in the league with his match-winning performances. After Madrid target Kepa Arrizabalaga signing a contract extension with Athletic Bilbao, the Los Blancos would not want to miss out on another highly-rated keeper.
