Can This Attacker Bring The Glorious Days Back For Manchester United?

Jose Mourinho

Antonie Griezmann was keen for a switch to the Red Devils last year, but the move got diverted when Barcelona showed their interest in the French forward.Griezmann was United’s main target, where Jose Mourinho worked on a deal worth £89m for the player to secure a move to Old Trafford in the summer. The move might be done since then if the Catalan giants Barcelona never have interrupted with their huge fund.

Though after the record breaking signing of Coutinho from Liverpool, it seems that Barcelona will not jump for the French star! So this maybe the perfect time to pick this 26-year-old guy.

Jose Mourinho seems determined to bring Griezmann to United ahead of the 2018/19 campaign and United have made a humongous price offer to the Atletico striker. But what now came between the striker and United is money! United have now been told that their initial wage offer of £290,000-a-week is way short of what Griezmann wants.

According to some sources, Griezmann demands an extra £100,000-a-week now, after seeing the huge sums other stars have gone for. It means that the Red Devils need to offer the forward a deal worth around £20.85m-a-year.

An Old Trafford source said: “The goalposts have moved significantly since the first attempt to sign Griezmann.” and added, “The package offered last year which was agreed is now a lot less than what he wants next summer.

It might be too much even for us to afford. The club is desperate to sign him but it is an awful lot of money.” He again added with disgust, “ His people are making different demands which the club might be reluctant to give in to.”

Atletico Madrid will almost certainly reject any offers for him this month but are willing to part way with him in the summer.

The 26-year-old joined the Spanish side from Real Sociedad in 2014 for around £24m. Since then, he has netted 91 times in 182 games overall for Diego Simeone’s side.

Griezmann has been average this season so far. He has managed to score only 5 times in his 15 appearances in La Liga with 4 assists; where in Champions League he has only 2 goals and 2 assists so far beside his name.

On the other hand, Manchester United have also planned for Celtic’s Kieran Tierney.
The 20-year-old youngster is available for around £25m despite signing a new six-year deal back in October. United are eyeing the Scot as Spurs have placed a £50m price tag on the head of Danny Rose. The England international is now back in the regular squad for the Spurs and looks set to stay.

Manchester United leads the Premier League table from the second spot. They are 15 points behind from City, who are at top of the table. It looks quite difficult and impossible to some extent to top the table in the next half of the League. Though Manchester United looked good in the FA cup match where the lead striker Lukaku scored again, which was one of their reasons to cherish. Manchester United will face Stoke City next in the Premier League.
