The prolific striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang arrived in North-London as Arsenal completed a club record move for Aubameyang having spent £56m on the Gabonese international on transfer deadline day. However, Dortmund agreed to sell their master marksman to the English side only after a deal for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi on loan was agreed upon. Aubameyang won the DFL Super Cup with the German outfit two years in a row in 2013 and 2014 and also the German Cup in 2017. He was also the Bundesliga’s top scorer last season as he finished the campaign with 31 goals.
Here are the 3 reasons why Aubameyang will be a great signing for Arsenal :
3. Aubameyang’s Great Form In Recent Times :
Aubameyang was on red-hot form this season as well as he was banging in goals regularly for the black and yellow’s but was eager to move away from the Signal Iduna Park as Dortmund were struggling this campaign. All in all, Aubameyang scored a staggering 141 goals in 213 appearances for Dortmund including 21 goals this season in 24 games. But the club grew frustrated with Aubameyang’s disciplinary actions and was keen to sell him in this transfer window itself if a bid was reasonable.
Aubameyang was also named Bundesliga’s Player of the Year in 2016 and has played 56 games for Gabon netting 23 times. The 28-year-old was also named African Player of the Year in 2015 and will now wear the Number 14 jersey at Arsenal.
2. Lacazette’s Combination With Aubameyang Can Prove Pivotal For Arsenal :
The Gunners will be delighted with their new signing as Aubameyang is one of the best forwards in the world and is extremely threatening with his pace and skill. He can open up defenses with his movement off the ball as well and links up well in attack. And Arsenal will also have broken their own transfer record in the last summer window after they signed Alexandre Lacazette from Ligue 1 club Lyon for a fee of £46.5m. Will he be the main man upfront for Arsenal- Only time will tell.
1. Arsenal Are Seeming To Get Benefits From The Transfer Merry Go Round :
The January transfer window came to a frantic end last night with the clubs spending €150m in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to €430m for the winter window alone. The triangular transfer deal of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi came to an end , much to the relief of the clubs involved in the transfer. Aubameyang made a club record €56m move to Gunners , thus becoming the signal for a series of deals to happen in quick succession.
The deal was promptly followed by 31 year old French striker Olivier Giroud making a €18m move to Stamford bridge to replace Michy Batshuayi , who in turn replaced Aubameyang in a season long loan deal at Dortmund , thus completing the merry-go-round of transfers which at one point seemed like just another transfer rumour.
Aubameyanng’s deal, coupled with the news of German play-maker Mesut Ozil signing a contract extension, the mood around the red side of London was pretty good in spite of a 3-1 loss to Swansea City.
However, his debut against Everton, along with a goal on debut was the perfect start for the attacker, who will now want to continue leading the Arsenal front-line in the days to follow.
