Wow! Is This The Best News For Arsenal Fans So Far This Season?

Finally It Happened!!

Since the departure of star winger Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, this transfer window has been a rather overwhelming one for Arsenal. And the latest great news for the North-London club is that stellar play-maker Mesut Ozil has signed a new three and a half year contract extension with the club.

They got a brilliant midfielder (Henrikh Mkhitaryan) for a winger who didn’t want to remain at the club (Alexis Sanchez) and had his contract expiring at the end of the season in a swap deal with fierce Premier League rivals. They broke the club record for signing one of the most prolific goal-scorers (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang) in the world from Borussia Dortmund. And arguably their best player (Mesut Ozil) just extended his stay at the club. Phew! What a week it has been for Arsenal.

And Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has finally seemed to learn from his past mistakes and do good business this January. He has managed German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil to remain at the club for another three years just before the play-makers contract was set to expire at the end of the season.

There was a lot of rumors regarding the highly rated midfielder’s future as many news outlets spread out false information about Ozil leaving the club either this January transfer window or in the summer as a free player after he ran out a contract. But the former Real Madrid winger has ended any possible transfer speculation after committing his future at Arsenal for another three and a half years that will extend his stay at the Emirates until 2021.

Ozil has been an integral part of the Arsenal side and helps them tick along with passes in midfield, his creative passing allows other players in attack to express themselves more freely and he also creates plenty of chances for his forward players. Ozil joined the Gunners in 2013, when he arrived for a club record signing then at £42.4 million and his contract expired in July, but the Arsenal fans need not worry about him departing anymore.

There were a lot of rumors floating around the Emirates stating that Arsenal would also be losing Mesut Ozil to Manchester United, but the Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho will now have no real chance of signing the player he once worked with at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid.

Ozil has created the most number of assists and chances in the Premier League since making his debut for Arsenal in 2013 at the club and ended Arsenal’s trophy drought in his first season itself when he helped the Londoners win the FA Cup, a trophy that Arsenal has won thrice now in the last four seasons.

The 29-year-old superstar also came under a lot of criticism by many pundits due to the lack of ambition he shows on the pitch, but statistics prove that he used to cover more ground on the pitch than former team-mate Alexis Sanchez. Ozil will now remain at the club till he turns 32 and Arsenal will be delighted that he signed a new contract extension amid the transfer rumors.
