The Blues may have been dealt with the stiff competition after realizing that Bavarian club Bayern Munich has also joined the race to sign American superstar Christian Pulisic. Borussia Dortmund will be unwilling to let go of the young starlet but if a huge offer comes in, it will be difficult to keep down Pulisic.
Chelsea has been struggling to find a natural goal-scoring forward to lead the frontline since Diego Costa departed Stamford Bridge at the end of the last term. Club record signing Alvaro Morata has struggled to replace his predecessor as the main centre-forward at Chelsea. The £70 million-rated striker from Real Madrid has had a rather torrid time in front of goal at Stamford Bridge so far and has not settled in well to the pace of the Premier League. The Spaniard has still to convince manager Antonio Conte of a starting berth despite his reputation of arriving from the Spanish capital.
Olivier Giroud was brought in from London rivals Arsenal to replace Michy Batshuayi who left Chelsea to join Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund on loan in the winter transfer window. The Belgian never really adapted at Stamford Bridge but has been on red-hot goal scoring form after joining the Bundesliga side. His career so far at the Signal Iduna Park has been very successful and Chelsea may use Batshuayi as leverage in order to bring in Pulisic.
Pulisic has been heavily impressive for the Black and Yellow’s and has been hailed as a real prospect for the future. His pace and dribbling skills have been admired by many top European clubs across Europe and Pulisic is now ready to take his game to the next level. Pulisic’s low centre of gravity allows him to ghost past defenders and he is versatile enough to play on either side of the flanks, as a second striker or as a main striker for his side.
Pulisic has been the youngest player to represent his country at international level at just 17 years of age and score a goal as well. The Pennsylvanian born star has already made 20 appearances for his national side scoring 9 times at just 19 years old.
Chelsea will be eager to sign him in the summer but will now face huge competition from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich as the Bavarian giants are keen on replacing the ageing veterans Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. Pulisic has been identified as their number one target on the flanks.
Ribery and Robben are linked with a move to China by the end of the season and therefore are looking to build on a solid foundation. There are also rumors of Robert Lewandowski moving to Real Madrid and Pulisic could replace the big Polish striker.
However, after a recent 2-1 loss at the hands of Manchester United in the Premier League highlighted the need for Chelsea to bring in a quality finisher and Pulisic may just be the missing jigsaw for Antonio Conte’s Blues. Chelsea will face Manchester City in Premier League in this weekend.
