The Premier League duo of Manchester United and Chelsea will now face competition from Serie A giants Inter Milan and AC Milan in the pursuit of Chilean superstar Arturo Vidal. The Bayern Munich star has been linked with a move to the Premier League for quite a while and looks set to leave the Allianz Arena in the summer.
At 30 years old Vidal is still one of the most important players at the home of the German champions but is likely to leave Bayern in the summer due to lack of game time. Vidal arrived at the home of the Bundesliga giants back in 2015 on a four year deal for a fee of €37m from Serie A side Juventus. And having won the Bundesliga twice as well as the German Cup Vidal may leave Bayern in the summer after falling further down the pecking order.
Bayern has already wrapped up Leon Goretzka from Schalke and the young German will join the waiting champions next season after a pre-agreement has already been made. Goretzka also plays in the same position as Vidal and it’s a sign of things to come for the Chilean, who may now fall further down the pecking order in the centre of the pitch.
Manchester United have been eyeing Vidal for quite a while now, but have never managed to strengthen their midfield despite Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic joining the Red Devils. United boss Jose Mourinho has admitted his interest in the 30-year-old defender and after signing another one of his countryman in the winter transfer window in the form of Alexis Sanchez, it would only boost the confidence further for the newly arrived winger. The Red side of Manchester will then look to challenge for the title next season after local neighbors Manchester City are currently running away with the Premier League this year.
Chelsea has been struggling to fill the void left by Nemanja Matic last summer. The Blues boss Antonio Conte has brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko, Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater to re-enforce his squad but none of them have had the impact the big Serb used to in midfield during their title-winning campaign last term. Vidal is another world-class midfielder and could be the remedy for the London giants in their midfield department.
Conte has already worked with Vidal during the duo’s time together at Serie A side Juventus where they won three Italian League titles together. He was a key player for Chelsea and the Italian boss may look to reunite with his former star.
But there is reportedly fierce competition from the two Milan clubs in the Serie A as Inter and Milan are looking to snap up Vidal from Bayern in the summer. The two fallen Italian clubs are looking for a resurrection and are showing intent with their signings. An intriguing summer awaits as Inter and AC Milan will be keen to get a signing over their fierce rivals. AC Milan will face Arsenal in the round of 16 clash in Europa League on Thursday.
It would be embarrassing if the London based clubs lose out on their main target to the Serie A outfits, who have not really been able to produce much in terms of form, in recent years.
