It was that time of the season when Arsenal were set to lose both play-making options Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the upcoming months, with the pair out of contract at the Emirates next summer, which forced Arsene Wenger to hunt for the attacking reinforcements. Lacazette who has been impressive in this season, would need a support after departure of these two impressive game-changers.
Silva came to the San Siro ahead of the 2017/18 campaign. The Portuguese international was signed from Porto in the summer for €38m (£33.5m) but had struggled to perform in Serie A. He hadn’t scored even once in his nine appearances in the Italian League, though he did strike six times in six appearances in Europa League.
It seemed back then that the 22 year old could be allowed to leave Milan after just six months. According to some sources, Milan’s wage bill has rocketed above €50m, following their €200m spending spree before the start of the season and they were looking for ways to reduce their expenses.
Arsenal had already expressed an interest in Silva in the summer, before he completed a five-year deal at Milan, and, according to some sources, the north London club are looking to sign him again.
Though the move won’t be an easy one as Barcelona are also keeping close tabs on Silva’s situation at the San Siro.
They offloaded Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee over the summer and used some of the money to buy Borussia Dortmund winger Ousmane Dembele.
After signing Liverpool play-maker Philippe Coutinho, Barca now seemed to have settled down a bit, but could turn to Silva as the man to cushion up their front three.
Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso had hinted at Silva’s possible departure in his press conference at that point too
The Serie A side were also in heavy debt and it’s believed they are on the hunt for even more investors to fund their recent arrivals.
It seemed that the Italian giants would soon be forced sell some of their biggest stars as a consequence, and losing Silva would definitely be a huge blow to their future ambitions.
However, the Serie A outfit regained momentum and were looking good, as they grew from strength to strength.
Their performances at the domestic level looked really good, though they failed to make an impact in the Europa League and were knocked out of the competition by the Gunners.
The player has slowly settled down at Milan and is fulfilling his potential now, though it will not be long before he decides to make the move away and play elsewhere, as the Italian outfit still has a long way to go to full recovery.
This might push a lot of their top stars away from the club in the days to follow, with Arsenal now looking as one of the strong contenders to sign Silva.
Wenger will hope that he can bring in such players to rebuild his squad quickly and they can add more value to his side, who have failed to win the league yet again.
