With the Frenchman set to make his way out of the Emirates, making way for his successor after 22 years of serving at Arsenal, it’s gonna be a really busy summer for the north London giants. Wenger was like a large umbrella above the heads of Arsenal family. The old tree who accepted every criticism and distributed every success to his team.
As the Gunners are preparing themselves for the life without Wenger, there is a whisper of major squad overhaul ahead of next season under the guidance of super scout Sven Mislintat.
He has got the German root and has eye for the talents. It is obvious that he could raid the Bundesliga to search of young potentials and future stars and bring them to the club.
It was just the wait of the news and according to the source both Wolfsburg’s Felix Uduokhai and Mainz’s Abdou Diallo are now on the Gunners’ radar.
These young guys ate defenders by position and had spent a successful first year at Bundesliga. Though the question still lies that who are they and are they enough for Arsenal!
Uduokhai and Diallo both have emerged as the rising stars and made their name in the respective back-lines of Wolfsburg and Mainz this season, as both clubs have endured a long, fierce battle to stave off relegation.
Uduokhai came into the limelight through the ranks at 1860 Munich. After that he joined Wolfsburg last summer. He is now considered one of the most talented young German defender and several big clubs of Germany along with Arsenal showed interest to sign him.
On the other hand, Diallo joined Mainz from Monaco at the beginning of the season. He is regarded one of the largely unused talents in Monaco, where he showed his own true class with a number of fine performances in the Bundesliga this year.
Both are pure centre backs by trade and reflect modern football by their game. Both are renowned for their technically gifted mind and intelligence in reading of the game rather than brutal in the challenge. They are 21 but showed an immense maturity to get settled so quickly in Bundesliga. These left footed defenders came from nowhere and now are one of the leaders of the young age football.
Uduokhai made his name in the first team regular as soon as arriving at Wolfsburg. He would have made more than his 17 Bundesliga appearances if that knee injury not kept him out of the pitch earlier this season.
He represented his country at youth level and now has the choice whether to play for the Bavarians or Nigeria at senior level.
Diallo has been the key for the Mainz this term keeping them out of the danger of automatic relegation. His exploits in defense and set piece taking ability in attack kept everyone stunned.
He maintained himself as a consistent performer through the season, being fearless by the pressure of wearing a No 4 shirt once worn by Jurgen Klopp.
Arsenal may cash in for these two young talents this summer, bringing them to the Emirates, though Diallo signed a five-year contract with Mainz last summer, while Uduokhai has his deal with Wolfsburg also runs until 2022.
