Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is keen to step up their push for the Premier League next season by bolstering his midfield options to add even more goals to his side. The German boss has identified two English stars in the form of Norwich City’s James Maddison and Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon for his midfield next term.
The Reds currently sit third in the Premier League table and are aiming for a title push next season with some re-enforcements in the midfield department. Liverpool will already receive a midfield boost when Naby Keita joins the club from Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig in the summer. The Guinea international has been extremely phenomenal for Leipzig and will grow on to become a big player at Merseyside.
With German midfielder, Emre Can close to leaving the club in the summer amid links from Serie A giants Juventus, it’s highly likely that the 24-year-old will be leaving this transfer window as he runs out of a contract as well and is not willing to open a new deal with the English giants. The dynamic midfielder is vital to Liverpool and his absence will be felt in the middle of the pitch. James Milner is also 32 years of age now and may not be able to provide Liverpool with a long-term solution despite the Englishman’s hard-work. Club captain Jordan Henderson is also a bit unreliable when it comes to pressure situations and the 27-year-old is not adept at getting forward often enough.
And the future looks very intriguing for Liverpool as they plan on bringing in two young exciting stars from the Championship to top-tier football. Klopp has always favored attack over defending and Norwich City star midfielder James Maddison who has been incredible for the Canaries. The 21-year-old English star has already smashed in 15 goals this season and has notched up eight assists in 47 appearances for Norwich City this season. Maddison is keen on playing for a top club and is good mates with fellow countryman Trent Alexander Arnold.
However, Maddison is not the only midfield goal machine that Liverpool is monitoring as Fulham superstar Ryan Sessegnon is also one of the major up and coming stars through the lower leagues. At just 17 years of age, Sessegnon has already made a massive name for himself at Fulham. Having started off as a left-back, his impressive performances in attack promoted him into an attacking winger. Sessegnon has flourished ever since and is able to focus more on his attacking game by playing in a midfielder role on the left-hand side of the pitch. In 47 appearances for the London outfit this season, the youngster has amassed 15 goals and provided six assists which are astonishing numbers for a natural defender.
I think that Liverpool should sign these two superstars if they are to move in the forward direction but Klopp also needs to sort out his leaky defense because it’s equally important when you need to win titles. Klopp does have the tendency to bring out the best in his players.
