A Review Of The Pre-Season For The Top Premier League Clubs So Far

The International Champions Cup has begun in style. Borussia Dortmund are leading in the League Table till now as they have collected 7 points from their 3 matches so far in this tournament. The English Premier League clubs are trying to make their marks in the International Champions Cup too. Liverpool have already played two matches in this pre-season tournament. They have won against Manchester City with a late penalty goal scored by Sadio Mane at the 94th minute of the match. Manchester City were leading in the match in the first half. After that, in the second half, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane appeared in the field for the Reds. These two substitutions were very much crucial in terms of the match as those two players have scored to see them at the winning side.

 

The Premier League sides are giving more chances to their academy youngsters in this tournament to help them to flourish against the big guns. It is a really good platform for the young Academy players to prove themselves in the big stage. The performance of those youngsters might be very crucial for his career. If the youngsters can perform well in this tournament, they will surely make a mark in the manager’s notebook. It will surely push them to get a chance in the starting eleven of a side in the upcoming new season.

Manchester City and Liverpool both the Premier League sides were defeated by the Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in their opening match of this tournament. Borussia Dortmund are playing with their full strength squad in this preseason tournament. On the other hand, the other teams are taking these matches as the preparatory step before the beginning of the new season. So, they are preferring to rotate their squad in both halves to check their depth of the squad.  

Arsenal and Manchester United have also played their first match in the International Champions Cup and both of their matches have ended in a same fashion. The Gunners have drawn their first match against Atletico Madrid. The match has ended with a 1-1 scoreline. Luciano Vietto has scored the only goal for the Spanish side. On the other hand, Emile Smith-Rowe has equalised the scoreline for the Gunners at the beginning of the second half. After that, the Spanish side have clinched the victory in the Penalty shoot out.

On the other hand, the Red Devils have played their first match against the Serie A side AC Milan. The match has ended with a scoreline of 1-1 at the end of the regulatory 90 minutes. Manchester United have won the match in penalties at the end. Tottenham Hotspur have beaten the Serie A side AS Roma with a margin of 4-1 and all the goals have come in the first half. Now, the Gunners will face Paris Saint Germain and Chelsea FC in next two fixtures of International Champions Cup. Chelsea FC are going to begin their run against the Serie A side Inter Milan on Saturday in this preseason tournament.
