The Blues are set to join the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Matteo Kovacic this summer transfer window. The Croatian international has attracted interest from several top suitors across the European continent and is eager for a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid secured their third consecutive Champions League trophy in consecutive seasons but there are not all smiles at the Spanish capital. The La Liga club has a whole squad and more of talented key players but they can field only 11 players per game. This makes it very difficult for the bit part players to show their brilliance on a consistent basis. Even though there are high-quality players at the club, they are not able to showcase their talents.
There are a number of top European clubs who have been monitoring Kovacic’s situation for quite some time now, because he is a player who is extremely talented and can fit into most of the clubs in major football. The Premier League trio of Liverpool, Manchester United and now even Chelsea are in the hunt for Kovacic, though it is obvious that only one club will be able to sign him.
Liverpool lost Emre Can to Juventus and Manchester United lost Michael Carrick to retirement, the two English giants are now looking at replacements to fill the void in their particular midfield departments. However, Chelsea has struggled with their recruitment of midfielders over the past few summer transfer windows and are looking to make a mark this summer.
