Liverpool and Manchester United are going to battle out for the Switzerland star player Xherdan Shaqiri. The Mancunians and the Scousers are prepared to go on a bidding war for Switzerland International Xherdan Shaqiri. The Red Devils are the latest club to submit an interest in Stoke City star winger Xherdan Shaqiri, Jurgen Klopp wants too add more quality to his already star studded attacking line and Shaqiri’s mere €12m release clause will prove out to be quite a bargain if he manages to land the Albanian.
Shaqiri has had an amazing career proving himself in 4 leagues. He kicked off his career with FC Basel winning three Swiss Super Leagues he made 130 appearances for the Switzerland based football club and impressive performances caught the eye of Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich and he made a switch to Germany for a fee of €10m.
At Bayern Shaqiri probably enjoyed the most success as he was part of the treble winning side of 2012. He won the Domestic League three times and won two German Cups, He made only 81 appearances for Munich and was involved in 36 goals.
He then moved to Italy in 2015 and signed for Inter Milan on a permanent transfer for a sum of €13m, The Switzerland International featured only 20 times for the Azzurri’s and was sold in the next transfer window to Stoke City for a sum of €15m, at that time this was regarded as a major transfer coup achieved by Stoke as they managed to sign one of footballs top talent.
At Stoke Shaqiri has went on to make 92 appearances and has raked in 15 goals and has also chipped in with the same amount of assists for The Potters.
Stoke have not had the best of the seasons last year as they have been relegated to the championship after a Decade’s stay in British top flight. The Potters only managed to score 33 points in 38 league games last season finishing on 19th position.
Since their relegation many clubs have shown an interest in many big names from their squad and Shaqiri has obviously been on top of that wishlist for a few of them.
No matter where he moves Shaqiri will not be a first team player and will be used as an impact sub. He will face plenty of competition in both clubs as Man United already possess quality attacking names such as Alexis Sanchez, Jese Lingard, Juan Mata and Marcos Rashford.
At Liverpool he would face similar situation with Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain. He can however drop back deep and play as a creator but that would hamper his ability and it is not best suited for his style of play as he likes to cut in through the wings and just go for it.
In conclusion he should rather move to Old Trafford than make a switch to the Anfield as he is more suitable for Mourhino’s build up style of play than Klopp’s preferable direct style of play, with his mere €12m release clause it will be a steal for anyone manages to lands his signature.
