Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain has reportedly flown down to Milan to join the Gennaro Gattuso’s AC Milan from the Old Lady. According to the latest reports, Higuain is set to have his medical today and this will be a massive blow for Premier League side Chelsea who were keen on the Juventus forward’s services.
Chelsea has not had a great campaign in the Premier League last season and finished fifth on the table. A spot outside the top 4 meant that the Blues will not be eligible to play in the Champions League for the upcoming season. And despite winning the FA Cup final against Manchester United at the back end of May, Italian manager Antonio Conte was sacked by Chelsea. After the sacking of Conte, Chelsea hired ex-Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri in order to succeed the 48-year-old
Higuain was spotted in training with the Old Lady during the preseason but will land in Milan on Sunday morning to complete a move to AC Milan in a deal worth around €60 million.
Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri confirmed earlier this week that before the transfer window ends he will have a formidable side before the season begins, “The market is always carried out by the club.
We hear about it every day, I don’t even have a striker here, so we’ll see what happens when we go back to Italy. On the 17th, when the market shuts, Juve will be as competitive as ever. The club has worked very well so far, and now we’re waiting for this week of work to end, before going back on the 8th. After that, we’ll take stock of the market, which will be an excellent one, regardless of what happens next.”
The master tactician guided the Partenopei to a 2nd place finish in the Italian table and had worked with Higuain when the Argentine spent a few seasons with Sarri at the Stadio San Paolo. Higuain broke the record for most goals in a season with Napoli in the Serie A in the 20115-16 season when he netted an astonishing 36 goals in the league.
Sarri was keen to bring the 30 year old to Stamford Bridge this summer transfer window but will not be able to do so as a move to the San Siro looms for Higuain. According to the latest reports, Higuain and his brother Nicolas, who is also his agent, were spotted in Milan to discuss terms with the Rossoneri regarding a potential move which will be completed soon.
This is a massive blow for the former champs of England, Chelsea, as they were looking to sign Higuain this summer to bolster their attacking options.
Spanish striker Alvaro Morata has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League with Chelsea and has come under heavy scrutiny with his performances which lack goals. Higuain would have guaranteed goals for Chelsea as he has proved himself at top-flight clubs but a move to AC Milan is imminent.
What will be the fate of the Blues under their new manager? Only time will tell.
