Maurizio Sarri’s side are keeping tabs on the situation of midfielder Piotr Zielinski at Serie A club Napoli, with the Premier League giants looking to sign the play-maker in the days to come. The west London side are said to be keeping a close watch on the contract negotiations that are going on at present, between the player and his current club, as per Calciomercato.com.
The report further adds that the star is wanted not just by Chelsea, but by Liverpool as well, as the two English sides look to add more quality to their squad. The two managers are looking to win more titles and a player of the calibre of the 24 year old midfielder can be really beneficial for their cause.
At present, Zielinski has a €65m (£58m) release clause in his current deal with the club, though if a new deal does get agreed between the two parties, it could go beyond a fee of €150m. The teams interested in his services will be hoping that the player does not sign a new contract, if they are keen on bringing him in, either in January or the summer transfer window.
Sarri previously managed the 24-year-old star for a couple of campaigns during his time at Napoli, though the midfield superstar failed to establish himself as a first-team player under the Italian at that point of time.
In his debut season with the Naples based side after completing a €16m move from Udinese, the star managed to start a total of 18 league games, though he was given just 14 starts in the previous campaign. This would have not made the Polish star happier back then and though he has featured more prominently under Carlo Ancelotti this term, he would still want to fight for a place in the playing eleven more regularly.
So far he has managed to make five starts in all competitions, with a couple of goals to his name in his team’s 3-2 win over fierce rivals AC Milan at the end of the previous month. With that being said, the Poland international is now a wanted man and the two English teams are eager to sign him.
Both the London based club and the Merseyside outfit have made really good starts to the league campaign and will now want to challenge for the top flight of English football. With that being said, a player like Zielinski can be a valuable asset to their squads.
Klopp’s team looks the stronger side so far, though the two managers will welcome a much needed reinforcing of their midfield. The two sides face off against each other twice in the current week, as they first meet in the League Cup and then the league.
It will be a high intensity battle between the two teams and which team comes out on top, remains to be seen. The game will have some major implications with regards to the title race and the team which wins it, will surely have an advantage over their rival.
