Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United is currently on red alert as they are looking to poach Inter Milan’s towering central defender Milan Skriniar. The Red Devils are struggling at the moment and will look to make an impact in the summer transfer window to purchase a defender.
Manchester United are currently in unfamiliar territory as they languish in 10th place on the Premier League. Jose Mourinho had stated before the season began that his Manchester United will face a difficult time for the whole campaign and the English giants are feeling that at the moment as they have gone winning just one game out of seven in all competition. United have succumbed to embarrassing defeats off late as Third Division club Derby County knocked Manchester United out of the League Cup at Old Trafford while West Ham United put Mourinho’s job under further jeopardy.
Mourinho was extremely close to facing the sack when Rafael Benitez’ Newcastle United visited Old Trafford and was 2-0 up at halftime. However, a stunning 3-2 comeback may have just managed to keep Jose Mourinho his job. A 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in a difficult situation may have brought the Portuguese boss some extra time but another 1-0 loss against Champions League side Juventus showed the difference in class between the English and Italian giants.
Mourinho’s job still remains on the line but the fans are still not giving in to the fact that their manager should be sacked anytime soon. However, the United faithful are asking for the backing of the manager where club Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward Ed Woodward gives Mourinho the funds to make a splash in the winter transfer window. The ‘Special One’ was crying out for the board to sign central defenders in the summer transfer window and having been linked with a number of top quality center-backs ranging from Raphael Varane, Samuel Umtiti, Toby Alderweireld Alessio Romagnoli and Mats Hummels, United failed to lure in any of them to Old Trafford because of the inflation in the transfer market and the fact that Woodward wasn’t willing to spend heavy on any of them.
The Manchester based side are still stuck with Chris Smalling, Eric Baily, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones who have already made costly errors this season which have led to United having a poor start to the season. However, the Red Devils have been given a massive boost to sign another top defender in the winter transfer window as Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar has been stalling a contract extension to remain at the San Siro.
The 23-year-old has been immense for Inter Milan ever since joining the Serie A outfit from Sampdoria in 2017 and Skriniar has attracted interest from several suitors across the European continent. The Slovakian international is strong, tall and a great passer of the football who would be able to fit into Mourinho’s style of play. Maybe the fact that Skriniar is not signing a contract extension means that he wants a move to the Premier League?
