According to the latest reports, Liverpool are set to receive a massive setback in the pursuit for Paris Saint Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot in the winter transfer window as he is offered a massive contract by the Parisians. The Reds were keen on signing Rabiot in order to bolster their chances of winning the Premier League title this season but may now have to look at alternatives instead.
Liverpool has enjoyed a great start to the season as they currently sit on 2nd place in the Premier League table but joint top with leaders Manchester City. The Reds are also on the top of their Champions’ League group despite some tricky opponents in the form of Paris Saint Germain and Napoli. But the Merseyside club is yet to hit top gear in terms of their front line firing and is still finding their feet early on in the season. The likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane are yet to hit the heights of last season which definitely means that Liverpool are title contenders this season but the Merseyside club still have some missing parts in their squad.
Despite spending big in the summer transfer window and bolstering his squad adding depth and quality, Klopp missed out on one of his prime targets in the form of Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir. However, Liverpool did manage to bring in Fabinho from AS Monaco, Naby Keita from Red Bull Leipzig, Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City and Alisson Becker from AS Roma. Even with these high-quality midfielders, Klopp feels that there is some dynamism missing from a player in his squad who should be able to command and control the game.
Jurgen Klopp’s side was held to a 1-1 draw against North London side Arsenal this weekend at the Emirates Stadium and Liverpool barely managed to play out from the back. Brazilian midfielder Fabinho was not really adapted to the pace of the Premier League and he was clearly struggling to cope with his opposition midfielders. Injuries to Naby, Keita, Jordan Henderson, and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain meant that Fabinho had to start but the 25-year-old proved the point that Klopp needs to purchase a midfielder who can grab these games by the scruff of the neck and dictate play.
Paris Saint Germain’s Adrien Rabiot fits the bill quite perfectly at the moment and the French midfielder has been linked with a move to Liverpool for quite a while now this season. Even La Liga giants Barcelona were keen on the 23-year-old’s signature but these two European giants were given a massive blow last week. Italian report Calciomercato stated that Rabiot was close to signing a new contract with the Ligue 1 giants and will extend his contract with a staggering weekly wage. The midfield gem will be earning a stunning £7m a year if he pens a new deal at the Parc Des Princes. This will give a big blow to Liverpool, who were hoping to lure Rabiot to Anfield in the winter transfer window.
