Game-week 18 : Advantage Liverpool, Spurs Own Everton; While Chelsea And Manchester City Crumble Under Pressure

Manchester City

The game-week 18 has been one of the best weeks in this season’s Premier League so far. We have witnessed so many goals and two major upsets in this week. The League Table has been starting to take a shape and in this circumstances, each and every point is vital for the teams. Liverpool are currently situated at the top of the table. The Reds have secured an easy victory against Wolves on Friday night. It was an easy win for the Reds in that match. Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk scored for Liverpool while the likes of Doherty or Jimenez were unable to score a single goal at their home.

On the very next day, there were two major upsets of this week. Chelsea and Manchester City were defeated by Leicester City and Crystal Palace on Saturday. Both the games were at the home of the respective big Giants. On the other hand, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur secured all the three points from their respective matches.

The Gunners faced Burnley in this weekend in the Premier League. It was a comfortable win for the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang scored two goals and Alex Iwobi sealed the victory for the home side. Mesut Ozil was back in the side and he played a phenomenal football on Saturday to outclass Sean Dyche’s Burnley. Ashley Barnes scored the solitary goal for Burnley. Arsenal won the match with a margin of 3-1.

Chelsea were defeated by Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The match was dominated by Chelsea in terms of possession. However, the buildup of the Blues were too slow in this match. Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso’s shots hit the bar and it was not the day in the office for the Blues as they conceded their first home defeat of the season against Leicester City. Jamie Vardy was clinical in front of the Goal. James Maddison provided a brilliant ball towards the English centre forward. Antonio Rudiger missed the ball Vardy got some free space to shoot. His shot was on target and Kepa Arrizabalaga had nothing to do with it.

Kevin De Bruyne pulled one goal back; but the defensive unit of Palace were resilient enough to keep the lead till the end of the match. After this defeat, Liverpool are 4 points ahead of Manchester City ahead of Christmas.

Manchester United are now back to winning ways after the change of their manager. The Red Devils trashed Cardiff City with a margin of 5-1. Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford- all were named in the score-sheet on Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur also won against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday with a margin of 2-6. Harry Kane and Son Heung Min both scored a brace in this match. Now, Spurs are only two points behind Manchester City in the League Table.  The Reds have a 4 point lead at the top and will now want to build on that.
