Manchester United and Arsenal will battle it out to secure the signature of Hearth Berlin midfielder, Arne Maier in January. According to the reports of the Sun the 19-year old German midfielder who plays for Herth Berlin has attracted interest from two of the top clubs in the Premier League.
His name did come up back in September but with the January transfer window closing in and with more matches he has matured as a player and has showcased his talent which has resulted in renewed interest from top European clubs.
Maier has an uncanny resemblance to German superstar Toni Kross and his style of play, with a lot of experience for Germany in youth level the 19-year old midfielder will hope that he could follow the footsteps of Toni Kroos and break into the German senior squad. Kroos has been a role model for many midfielders in Germany and with the illustrious career he has had it is nothing shocking.
Hertha currently values the player at around £15million but it is likely that the Die Alte Damme will sell Maier to Arsenal or Manchester United for almost double the fee if they want to avail his services in the January transfer market.
Hertha Berlin are currently in the sixth position in the Bundesliga table with 23 points after 14 match-days and they are only four points behind reigning champions Bayern Munich. Although Lucien Favre’s Borussia Dortmund are currently running away with the league with 36 points.
Maier has registered any goals or assists this season until now, but his role in deep midfield is very crucial for manager Pal Dardai and his men. His solid displays in midfield have attracted highly by both Arsenal and Manchester United, as both teams highly rate the player.
Both the sides feel that Maier can be a future star and Hertha may regret their move of selling him too early in the future. Although things can take a different direction as well.
Arsenal who are currently sitting in the fourth position in the Premier League table under new manager Unai Emery needs more reinforcements in the January transfer window. Players like Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey are a potential departure for the Gunners and Emery is hoping that he can tie down Maier to a long-term contract at the Emirates as he can be a solution for them, for a long span of time.
Manchester United, on the other hand, are sitting just below Arsenal in the sixth position in the Premier League table. Former boss Jose Mourinho wanted to revamp his squad, which seems to have no cutting edge in their ranks. The Red Devils are linked with several midfielders and one of them is Arne Maier who can be an useful addition to their side and considering his tender age he can be one of the stars at the club.
Mourinho had gone around criticizing most of his squad for their performances in the league and hence the Portuguese want to make some additions to the squad to challenge the top four spot in the League.
Arsenal meanwhile has started life under Unai Emery with a bang registering 20 matches unbeaten run. But with players set to leave the Gunners new signings in January will be welcomed dearly at the Emirates.
