Belgium international, Michy Batshuayi is set to return to Stamford Bridge after Valencia loan spell cut short. Batshuayi was loaned out to La Liga to Valencia and have failed to find his feet in Spain. The 25-year old has struggled to find the net scoring only three goals in the 23 appearances he has made for the Los Che.
Hence Valencia have confirmed that they want to cut his season-long loan spell short and send him back to his parent club after failing miserably to live up to his expectations.
“We are negotiating with several clubs an exit for Batshuayi,” Valencia’s sporting director Mateu Alemany said on Thursday.
‘The player knows and we hope to reach a solution soon for the good of all parties. “We are expecting an exit in the next few hours or days.”
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is pretty vocal about his interest to bolster his attacking line in the winter transfer window itself. However, he has clearly stated that someone like a Michy Batshuayi does not fit his bill as he wants someone who can offer something different up top and doesn’t seem too intrigued with Batshuayi’s characteristics. So it might mean that Batshuayi will be loaned out again at least until the end of this season.
The club knows very well my opinion,’ Sarri said earlier this month. ‘I think we need something different for characteristics.’
However, there are clubs lining up to secure Batshuayi’s services and if rumours are to be believed then French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco are currently leading the race for the 25-year old forward. Premier League side, Everton are also interested in the Belgium international. Several reports suggest that the forward agent has landed in the Principality to hold talks with Monaco about a potential future move.
Everton, on the other hand, have lined up an £18m transfer bid for Batshuayi and wants to wrap up the deal in January itself. Marco Silva managed side would have liked to proceed with a loan to buy deal but the Toffees already have Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma on loan at the Goodison Park and according to the Premier League guidelines only one player can be loaned at a club at any point of time.
Chelsea though will look to negotiate more if they have to sell him permanently as they would want to recover the £33m they spent on him to bring him to the Stamford Bridge back in 2016 from French Ligue 1 club Marseille. So that means the Blues will consider loaning him again and currently his likely destination looks like AS Monaco.
Monaco have struggled to get going in the French Ligue 1 and with new boss Thierry Henry trying to get his act together, Batshuayi will be a nice addition to their ranks considering that the Belgian knows Henry pretty well back in when the Arsenal man was the assistant coach with the Belgium national team. To add to that Batshuayi really know the league well and have thrived in the past and there is no reason why he can’t replicate that sort of form with Monaco.
“I know him well, we were close with Belgium,” Henry said of the forward. “We will see what happens. He is an interesting player.”
If the deal goes through Michy Batshuayi will follow another former Chelsea man Cesc Fabregas to the Stade Louis this season.
