Chelsea came back to winning ways as out of form striker Alvaro Morata bagged a brace from their 2-0 win over Championship side Nottingham Forest in the third round of the prestigious FA Cup. Chelsea were the dominant side and enjoyed lion’s share of the ball possession, but their inability to find the back of the net consistently has been haunting them for quite some time now was evident again on the night. despite scoring a brace Morata will not shy away from criticism as the Spanish striker missed a horde of chances to increase his tally. Experienced midfielder Cesc Fabregas also missed a spot-kick on his swan song for the club.
It was an emotional ending to the night for the supporters and for the man himself as by the looks of it Fabregas played his last match for the Blues. The supporters went berserk chanting his name at the end of the match and acknowledging his contributions for the West London side.
When will Chelsea’s attacking conundrum end?
The Blues have been struggling to find the back of the net and in their last two home games, Maurizio Sarri’s men failed to find the back of the net resulting in dropping points in a fiery top four battle in the league. If Sarri wants this side to be successful in future and even in the latter half of the season, he needs to fix this issue immediately. Alvaro Morata did score a brace but the Spaniard got away with it only because it was against inferior opponents. Early in the game, he squandered an easy chance from Zappacosta’s pinpoint delivery. Fabregas also missed the chance of handing Chelsea a first-half lead from the spot. All in all, with crucial matches coming thick and fast Sarri needs to find a solution to this problem.
Callum Hudson Odoi’s stunning display justifies why top European clubs are after him
The Chelsea youngster has been linked with a move out of Stamford Bridge as he isnt getting enough minutes to prove his worth to Sarri. With Christian Pulisic already signed by the Blues and will arrive next summer and with likes of Eden Hazard, Willian all ahead of him in the pecking order, Hudson Odoi’s future at the club looks uncertain. There has been immense interest from Bayern Munich as the Germans are looking for players to replace their iconic duo of Robben and Ribery.
Hudson-Odoi was immaculate on the night as he was a menace throughout the ninety minutes. Threatened the Forest defenders and created a lot of chances. He himself had a go at the time but Forest goalie Steele denied him his glory moment. However the 19-year old finished the night with two assists to his name and with the immense potential, he has in his ranks the Chelsea man can be a top player in future.
Nottingham Forest created chances but missed a cutting edge in their attack
Forest had their spell in the game where they threatened the Blues although Daryl Murphy got an opportunity to head the ball home, his effort wasn’t enough to beat Willy Caballero between the posts. Midfielder Ben Osborn gave a good account of himself and held the ball at times and looked like creating something for his side. However Aitor Karanka’s men lacked a player who could have a strong impact on the game, someone who could add the spark to their ranks.
