According to the latest reports, English Premier League giants Chelsea are prepared to sell another player to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the January transfer window and it is none other than flop forward Michy Batshuayi. Having already poached Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas just a few days ago from Chelsea, Monaco is looking to push their luck with a move for Batshuayi although a loan move seems more likely.
Since arriving at Chelsea in the summer and replacing fellow Italian Antonio Conte, Maurizio Sarri has done quite an admirable job in his short term so far. Chelsea currently sits in fourth place on the Premier League table and look contenders to qualify for the elite Champions League tournament next season if they finish in the top 4.
The Blues also qualified into the semi-finals of the League Cup and Sarri has a chance of winning a trophy in the first few months as Chelsea manager. The West London club has also gone unscathed in their Europa League Group Stage and look like serious contenders to go all the way and win some silverware on a continental level as well.
However, Sarri is also aware that there is plenty of competition for trophies and he needs to re-enforce his squad in the January transfer window even if it means to offload some players in order to gain some regular football elsewhere or sell players who will not be a part of his team in the near future. The most recent player to suffer a brutal ax from Stamford Bridge was Spanish playmaker Cesc Fabregas who moved to French club AS Monaco in January. The 31-year-old midfielder is still quite a top player but has no room in Sarri’s system who prefers to utilize Joirginho, N’golo Kante, Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus Cheek, and even Mateo Kovacic ahead of Fabregas, who has been struggling for regular football this season.
Monaco are not yet done with their transfers as they Thierry Henry’s side plan to lure in another Chelsea star to the Stade Louis and have identified their target as Michy Batshuayi, who has also struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League since making the move to England from Ligue 1 side Marseille back in the summer of 2016. Although Batshuayi played an important role for Chelsea to win the Premier League title in the 2016/17 season, he has not produced the consistency that the Blues need in their front-line.
Batshuayi was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund back in 2018 and had a good start to life in the Bundesliga until an injury cut short his spell in Germany. The 25-year-old forward then was sent out on loan for the start of the 2018/19 season to Valencia but managed only one goal in the La Liga in a rather underwhelming spell in Spain.
Having worked with Thierry Henry during the FIFA World Cup for Belgium, the French legend now wants to bring in Batshuayi to AS Monaco for the remainder of the season on a loan deal. Premier League club Everton are also linked with a move for Batshuayi who doesn’t seem to be in Sarri’s plans for the future.
