Liverpool will not sign any new defender in this winter transfer window. The manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp is confident of his side. The Reds brought in Virgil Van Dijk in the winter transfer window of the previous season with a record transfer fee. At that point of time, Virgil Van Dijk was the most expensive defender in the World of football. Liverpool started to look great with the presence of Virgil Van Dijk in the central defense. The Reds were in the Final of the Champions League in the previous season. They were on the verge of winning it; however the Final match did not go in their way.
In this season, Liverpool are certainly the team to watch out for in the Premier League so far. Despite the defeat against Manchester City in the last gameweek, the Reds are still 4 points ahead of them in the League Table. Though, it is seeming that the League is still open for all the four clubs; Liverpool are still firm favourites to win it this time after many years.
The squad depth of Liverpool are certainly the main reason behind their success story so far in this season. In the long season, it is inevitable that there will be injury problems at certain point of time in the season. Liverpool also faced several injury problems till now. However, their squad depth helped Jurgen Klopp to overcome those challenges smoothly.
In the central defense, the Reds have four options in their list. Virgil Van Dijk and Dejan Lovren’s pair in the central defense is the best choice for Jurgen Klopp to field against the top sides. Otherwise, they also have Joe Gomez and Joel Matip who can also play in that position. All these four players except Virgil Van Dijk, were injured at some point of time. The Reds did not face any problem in that period as they had a good back up system.
In the left back position, Andrew Robertson is playing a great role in this season. For his great performance, the other left back of Liverpool, Alberto Moreno is not getting enough chance to prove himself. The same thing is also there for the right back position. Trent Alexander Arnold is certainly proving that he is one of the best right backs in the World football right now.
The other right back of Liverpool, Nathaniel Clyne joined Bournemouth for a six month long loan deal till the end of this season. The other advantage of Liverpool in this case is the presence of Joe Gomez in their squad. The young English defender can play in both right back and centre-back position. So, it certainly gives some advantage to the manager in terms of selecting his players.
James Milner and Fabinho can also play in the defense. So, it is obvious that Liverpool do not need to sign any defender at this point of time. They are rather trying to buy a good backup of their front three in this winter transfer window.
