The loss to Manchester City did not go down well with the Arsenal fans, who were rather disappointed with the way that their team had played in this match at the Etihad. The Gooners expected a lot more from their side, with the Londoners failing to make an impact in the game, especially the second half. A Sergio Aguero hat-trick was enough to keep City in the title race, as they were placed just a couple of points behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
There were a lot of disappointing players amongst the Arsenal faithful, but the fans have spoken their opinion as to whom they think was the worst players on the night. While pointing out at the guilty party, the supporters of the north London outfit raised fingers mainly on the showings of Alex Iwobi and Stephan Lichsteiner.
The Story Of The Poll That Was Conducted By One Of The Biggest Arsenal Pages On Facebook
The latter has been really poor in recent times. A lot more was needed from him, in order to keep the likes of Sterling rather quiet. There was more hope than a firm faith in his abilities. Though things went just as expected and he failed to leave his mark on the game yet again.
Iwobi too was poor and was at fault for the first goal of the game. It was scored rather quickly by Aguero for City. However, Arsenal did find a way to draw level. That was before conceding a second towards the end of the opening 45. The home side scored a third in the second half. The Argentine attacker eventually completing his hattrick.
On a recent poll in one of the bigger Arsenal pages on Facebook, it was asked to the fans, if they had to drop any one of the two players for an upcoming big match, whom would they choose out of the two. The answer was a clear 74% in favour of dropping the Swiss international, who has just not looked good enough to be on the team.
What Was The Recent Of This Immense Poll; What Did The Fans Say?
Nearly 300,000 people voted in this poll. Out of which more than 200,000 voted against the defensive superstar. This is a clear indication that the fans do not want him in the team. They will surely be raising their voices so that Unai Emery and the board know that the player needs to go.
With that being said, many of the Pundits also suggested that Carl Jenkinson rather deserved a chance to play. He instead would have been a much better choice. The reason for that was the fact that Lichsteiner doesn’t have the pace to push forward. Due to his poor form (some will say age catching up), the game against the Manchester-based side was more or less played in the half of the visitors.
This not just killed off any chance that they had to get something out of the game, but also made them look rather weak in front of the Citizens. The Manchester-based side was not in the best of form themselves. Once again cheap goals were let in. The defensive line was rather helpless in stopping the opposition attacks.
There is a serious need for change. Hopefully, Unai Emery has things sorted out already for the summer transfer window. He needs to ask the board for some big money to go out and buy new stars.
