Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given a massive boost for the weekend encounter against rivals Arsenal as four possible key players are in line to feature in the game. The United star revealed that Anthony Martial, Nemanja Matic, and Ander Herrera could feature in the crunch game while Eric Baily is also available.
The Story Before The Arsenal Clash And How Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Is Handling Things?
Manchester United seems quite a happy place at the moment as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is bringing the lost smiles back on the faces of the United faithful. Jose Mourinho was in charge of the Red Devils at the start of the season but everything was uncomfortable for United as the stale football was something they weren’t used to seeing. The defensive football that the ‘Special One’ had instilled at the club extremely dire and he wasn’t even getting the results to back his tactics.
The writing was on the wall for Mourinho and United’s arch-rivals Liverpool landed the final blow for the 56-year-old as Manchester United manager after a 3-1 defeat at Anfield in December. United decided that they have had enough of Mourinho and his antics and parted ways with the Portuguese manager and hired Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to stabilize the ship at least until the end of the season.
The Comments Made By The Manchester United Boss Recently
Solskjaer has overachieved expectations and has put himself in serious contention to take up the job on a permanent basis. The recent performance against PSG almost guaranteed Solskjaer the job as he overturned a 2-0 deficit against the Ligue 1 champions with an injury-hit side to win 3-1 at the Parc Des Princes and progress through to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. But the tests aren’t finished yet as Arsenal will host Solskjaer’s side at the Emirates on Sunday. Ahead of the encounter against the Gunners, Solskjaer spoke to reporters about his injury-hit side and had some positive news, “Eric’s fine, Anthony will be available and, hopefully, we’ll have Nemanja and/or Ander ready as well, so we’re looking better for it. They just need to have another couple of days’ training with the team. They’ve done well in their recovery work.”
Solskjaer also explained that Paul Pogba will be available for selection. That is after missing the PSG clash due to suspension. He further added to his comments, “Paul was over there training with us. And in the dressing room and the meetings. So he wanted to be a part of that game. It is great that he had a couple of days off after Southampton. So it was the least he could do!”
What Next Before This Crucial Game For Solskaer And Co.?
The 46-year-old then added that his side is completely fine and have no issues with the fixture, “We are alright. Arsenal played 24 hours later than us. Of course, it will be tougher for them. So we will be ready for Sunday, definitely.”
Arsenal lost 3-1 to Rennes in the Europa League. They will be hoping to bounce back against their fierce rivals in England. United currently holds the fourth spot on the Premier League table. Arsenal is in fifth. So the game will be crucial in the race for a top-four spot. That is in order for either of the clubs to play Champions League football next term.
