According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Manchester United are still keen on signing Borussia Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Red Devils are preparing to bolster their squad for next season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants more options in attack, as it has been confirmed now.
Manchester United have had quite a tumultuous season so far with plenty of ups and downs. The Red Devils began the season with Jose Mourinho as manager and the Portuguese boss had instilled his defensive philosophy into the players when he was annoyed at not being given the financial backing last summer to sign a star defender. The 56-year-old was not able to work his magic and the football at United became boring and stale, something that United fans weren’t used to watching on a regular basis. Even the results weren’t favoring Mourinho and it was only a matter of time before the ‘Special One’ was given the boot. A 3-1 humiliation at the hands of fierce rivals Liverpool put up the writing on the wall for the 56-year-old Mourinho and just days later he was fired.
A familiar face returned to Old Trafford in the form of former superstar Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The 46-year-old was hired to bring stability into the club at least until the end of the season but Solskjaer has exceeded all expectations since taking over in December. A dramatic 3-1 comeback in the Champions League against Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain after a 2-0 deficit has now almost guaranteed that Solskjaer would get the Manchester United job on a permanent basis as he has guided them to the quarterfinals of the competition. Most recently, United lost 2-0 to Arsenal which was incidentally Solskjaer’s first defeat in the Premier League this season. Although it was only a poor result, United are still in the hunt to finish in the top 4.
However, United are not looking to sign any central defenders despite chief vice-chairman Ed Woodward ready to splash funds on a star defender. Solskjaer though, has his sights set on fire-powering United’s attack in the summer. The 46-year-old wants to sign a right winger who can also contribute goals on a regular basis. Solskjaer is also prepared to give his current bunch of defenders to prove themselves for the next season and grow in stature.
One player who is linked with joining Manchester United in the summer is Borussia Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho after the Englishman has taken giant strides progressive steps toward success. The 18-year-old winger has already racked up nine goals and notched up 11 assists in all competitions this season. Sancho’s worth is currently €100m and Dortmund have insisted that their prized asset is not for sale in the summer.
United are also keen on signing fallen ex-Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho if a move for Sancho does not go through. Coutinho has struggled at the Camp Nou with Barcelona following his move last winter transfer window and United could offer him a route back to the Premier League.
