According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Manchester United are ready to sell star forward Romelu Lukaku with a bunch of top European clubs interested in signing the Belgian goalscorer in the upcoming summer transfer window. Lukaku has not really managed to convince the United faithful that he is a target man who can win the club titles on a regular basis and therefore the Red Devils could sell him and cut short his spell at the Theatre Of Dreams.
Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the reins at Manchester United back in December, he initially did quite a stellar job by replacing his predecessor Jose Mourinho at the helm. The Portuguese manager left the English outfit in a shambles and dire straits as the performances and results were not up to the mark of the United faithful. However, Solskjaer was appointed as the caretaker and exceeded expectations in his first few months in charge of Manchester United stringing together a bunch of positive results in the Premier League. The Red Devils also booked their place in the quarter-final of the Champions League after an incredible result against Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain as the English side overcame a 2-0 deficit to win 3-1 at the Parc Des Princes and advance into the next round of the competition.
These impressive results gave Solskjaer the Manchester United job on a permanent basis but things haven’t gone as smoothly as they did before. United was dumped out of the Champions League by Barcelona in the quarterfinals and they also suffered a thrashing against Merseyside club Everton 4-0 in Sunday which hampered their chances of finishing inside the top 4. Solskjaer now knows that he has a massive task on his hands at the moment and he will have to take that into the summer transfer window to recruit players. This means that there will also be a few current players that will leave Old Trafford and one of them who is at the exit door is Belgian star Romelu Lukaku.
The 25-year-old strong and powerful striker was signed up by Manchester United in the summer of 2017 from Everton in a massive £75m deal. Lukaku enjoyed quite a superb debut season with United netting 26 times across all competitions but was widely viewed as a player that was missing chances of a regular basis. Under Mourinho, Lukaku helped the Red Devils to finish 2nd on the Premier League table.
This season, Lukaku has 14 goals to his name but he is still a frustrated figure in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. The target man has come under heavy criticism for not being able to move around to help his team-mates and sometimes even been called ‘lethargic’. Over the past couple of seasons, Lukaku has not looked like a player who can win titles at Manchester United and recently fell down the pecking order as the Norwegian boss has decided to utilize Marcus Rashford ahead of Lukaku.
European heavyweights Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and even Paris Saint Germain are interested in signing Lukaku.
