According to the latest reports, Premier League duo of Arsenal and Liverpool are in the hunt to sign an exciting Portuguese talent from Benfica, Joao Filipe who is also commonly known as Jota. The two giant clubs will be in a race to sign Jota in the summer as they will continue to build on their chances of winning silverware.

Liverpool is currently enjoying one of their best seasons ever since the club was formed back in 1892 as they currently sit at the summit of the Premier League table and are in the hunt for their first Premiership title in 29 years. Jurgen Klopp’s outfit is in 1st place at the moment and two points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City but the trailers have a game in hand. Last season, Guardiola’s unit broke plenty of records as they stormed their way to the Premier League title amassing a record 100 points in the process. So Klopp is aware that if he needs to put the pressure of the Mancunians on a season by season basis, he will have to reinforce his squad almost every opportunity that he gets.

Liverpool’s attacking trio is arguably one of the most deadly in Europe at the moment with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino but there is always a case where one of them could have a patch of a goalless run. Currently, Egyptian star Mohamed Salah is going through that phase and the Merseyside outfit wants a backup winger if any of the front three are not able to deliver.

Arsenal is currently sitting in fourth place on the Premier League table at the moment and Unai Emery has worked his magic at the Emirates so far since taking charge back in the summer of 2018. He has breathed fresh life into Arsenal after the departure of legendary French manager Arsene Wenger. The 47-year-old Spaniard has also taken the Gunners to the quarterfinals of the Europa League where they will face Serie A giants Napoli over a two-legged tie.

However, there is still work to be done and Emery knows that he needs to bring in some quality players in certain departments if he wants Arsenal to compete for silverware on a regular basis. Arsenal is in dire need of a winger who can provide an option on the flanks and in the summer they will look for one.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have been monitoring the situation of Jota over the last week as the 19-year-old attacker has been catching the eye with some impressive performances. Benfica currently sits at the top of the Primeira Liga in Portugal and Jota has made four appearances for them this season.

The teenage sensation has a release clause of €30m and there are a number of clubs interested in signing Jota for that price. Benfica, however, is eager to offer Jota a new deal as the Lisbon side could then earn higher revenue from his transfer sale. Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on Jota and will provide competition for Liverpool and Arsenal.
