Arsenal Legend Tells Unai Emery To Avoid Doing This One Thing, Fans Disagree?

According to the latest reports, former Arsenal forward Ian Wright has revealed that Unai Emery must decide against selling star midfielder Mesut Ozil in the upcoming summer transfer window. The former England international has stated that Emery needs players around him to succeed at the Emirates Stadium over the next few seasons.

Ever since Unai Emery took charge of Arsenal football club back in the summer of 2018, he has had quite a mixed bag in his first season in England. The Spanish boss took over from the legendary Arsene Wenger who spent 22 long years at the club. During the Frenchman’s tenure, Wenger won several honors with the North London side, including seven FA Cups and three Premier League titles, including bringing Arsenal back to competing once again. However, during the final few seasons of Wenger’s reign, even most Arsenal fans wanted him to leave the club for some fresh air because the 69-year-old wasn’t able to adapt to the new generation of managers.

Emery did well at the start of his Arsenal tenure when he guided the club to 22 unbeaten games across all competitions as most of his players that he signed in the summer hit the ground running. The 48-year-old implemented his style of football and philosophy into the club but still couldn’t help the club finish inside the top four losing grasps of a Champions League berth. Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table but had another shot at playing in the elite tournament if they beat local London rivals Chelsea in the Europa League final. But a 4-1 humiliation against Maurizio Sarri’s Blues indicated that Emery has a big task on his hands in trying to get the club to compete for major honors in the near future.

One player who has come under heavy criticism over the past few months has been German midfielder Mesut Ozil as 30-year-old has been in and out of Emery’s team. Ozil is on a staggering £350,000 a week wage rate and is on the exit door at the Emirates because of his failure to adapt to life under Emery.

Ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright has explained why the Gunners should not sell key midfielder Mesut Ozil. The 55-year-old spoke to news outlet the Mirror said: “I am not for selling someone like Mesut Ozil because Ozil is the kind of player you want in your team. People can say whatever they want – leveling accusations that he does not do it in this game or that game. The fact is that he is good enough to be doing it in those games. The number of chances that Ozil is making on a regular basis, he is top in all five European leagues. Now whether that is Arsenal not getting the best out of him or people not taking the chances, he is still creating them. I have no problem with Ozil earning what he is earning because at the end of the day you need players around him that can bring the best out of him as well.”
