Arsenal Trying Their Best To Hold On To Aubameyang, Will It Be Enough?

Arsenal

According to the latest reports, Premier League side Arsenal is desperate to keep hold of their star forward Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang amid interest from the Far East with Chinese Super League clubs. The Gunners want to tie down Aubameyang, who is currently being lured into a massive wage hike from China.

The Story Involving Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang And This Stay At Arsenal

Unai Emery has had quite a mixed season in his debut season with the Arsenal football club since he took chargeback in the summer of 2018. The Spanish manager was the successor to the legendary boss Arsene Wenger who was in the job for 22 long years. During Wenger’s tenure, Arsenal won three Premier League trophies and seven FA Cups and in 69-year-old brought them back to competing. However, during the final few seasons of the Frenchman’s reign, there were some visible loopholes that were beginning to occur. Even most of the Arsenal faithful wanted Wenger out of the club due to his outdated philosophy.

However, Emery arrived and breathed fresh life into the club, taking Arsenal on a 22 game unbeaten streak earlier in the season. The 47-year-old instilled his game style into the players and almost every new signing hit the ground running. Arsenal looked certain to guarantee a top-four berth but a massive collapse in the latter stages of the Premier League meant that the Gunners had to settle for fifth place. Arsenal once again had the chance to qualify for the prestigious Champions League tournament as they made it to the final of the Europa League but eventually lost out to local London rivals Chelsea.

What Next For The Gunners; Can They Make This Upcoming Season Count?

The Blues hammered Arsenal 4-1 in Baku. That opened up those paper cracks which highlighted the work that Emery needs to do in the summer to bolster his squad. One player who set the performance bar really high was Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He netted 22 times in the Premier League to win the Golden Boot award. That was shared with the Liverpool duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Aubameyang will certainly feel the dejection of not winning any silverware after such a brilliant individual season. He will not be playing Champions League football as well next term. The 29-year-old prolific forward still has two years left on his current Arsenal deal. He is still open to a move away from North London as interest from Chinese clubs grows.

Reports claim that Aubameyang will receive a mammoth wage rate of £300,000 a week. That is if he decides to make a move to the Far East. The former Borussia Dortmund star currently earns around £190,000-a-week. His move to China could give the African a massive pay rise. Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou are the two clubs that are keen on signing Aubameyang in the summer. They are willing to pay a massive price for the striker as well.

However, Arsenal paid £56m for Aubameyang back in January 2018. The club has no intention of letting him leave the Emirates Stadium anytime soon. He has been of their most consistent players the last term. Though they ended the season trophyless, that can change soon.
